What so shy about?

So shy till my airplant (tillandsia) isBlush3 turning Blush2red... ohhh.. its blushinBlush1g..

notice the other green neighbours of the same species around it.. they are still green.. must be the neighbours teasing this particular plant.. lol

Anyway, this is an indication that the plant is receiving sufficient light and is ready to flower soon.. will update more pics of the flowers, if it really flowers..

Anyway.. such a perfect setting for Christmas.. Red and Green!!!

After being tied down with so much things to do this festive season, I finally had the time to go down to Orchard to do some Christmas Shopping!

Went with my cousin, Clarence, who's going to Finland soon... Had a farewell dinner for him at Thai Express at Paragon!

The crowd in Orchard is massive, everyong buying as though it's all free!!!!

Luckily for me, i did not spend much despite going home with 3 bagfuls of stuff, thanks to my Borders vouchers! Bought some Xmas presents... for myself... and for other people!

It´s my party, and i´ll cry if I want to

Remember the retro song that goes:

"It´s my party, and i´ll cry if I want to
Cry if I want to, cry if I want to
You would cry too if it happened to you"

Today's my birthday... but not many people actually knew about it... haiz... total SMS birthday greetings 3... got 6 birthday handshake wishes i even got one from Macdonald's.. maybe cos i on their membership list.. No birthday cards, no birthday presents (except one that i got myself and one that was given to me at a restaurant..) so pathetic right?

At least, i had a nice birthday lunch at Thai Express today with my classmate.. super shiok and sumptous lunch, green curry chicken, yellow curry chicken, grilled chicken popiah, tom yam soup and guessed what i was presented?

Pic_0114

..... a bottle of wine!!!

Quite surprised, cos i was expecting like if it was wine, should be served during the lunch itself.. not after paying the bill.. and they made my walk the whole of Holland V with a wine bottle in a carrier bag... lol...anyway, i wonder what patrons under 18 actually get.. wine too?

Anyway, i got for myself.. this M&M chocholate candy dispenser today.. Pic_0112self sympathy mar.. no birthday presents.. so got myself one.. who needs people to give me.. i can get it myself.. haha.. :P

So after spending my lunch in Holland Village, I went with my lecturer, Dr Tay, to this really cool compPic_0110any.. Sensient, it deals in food colourings, both naPic_0111tural and synthetic! So amazing.. just look at the catalogue book.. like really those paint catalogue. Colourful candies, juices and stuff.. so amazing.. So now you know where those colour from foods actually came from eh? Having second thoughts?

Dont worry.. cos all the colours are all food safe.. and some are even natural or nature identical!!

Alright, thats all for updating blog on a Birthday night!

Today..managed to meet up with a group of my primary school friends.. time flies.. have known them for more then 11 years!!!

Even though we have not met up for quite a long time, we chatted like we had never before.. all the laughing.. all the catching up.. Perhaps the friends, or rather most of them, we make during our primary school days are the most real and sincere...

Here's the unedited pics...

Are you ugly or what?

Today encountered so many ugly Singaporeans around..

People that do not give way to passengers alighting from MRT... as though they rushing in first can get prize... and worst still, people who sit on the floor on the MRT.. i was like hello.. ur butt very heavy is it?

Then when i came out from the MRT station.. This girl approached me.. and just shoved up this shit, erm.. i mean sheet of paper into my face. No basic courtesy is it? Didnt school teach kids to be more courtesy? I wonder what happened to the courtesy campaign. Cant she approach me and ask nicely if i wanna do a survey or not..

Then at the bus interchange.. some people really have no idea on how to queue for the buses.. and when the buses come. they actually have the aduacity to rush up the buses like nobody's business..

sigh, what has become of Singaporeans..

Are you ugly like them too?

Tillandsia updates

Today, i am going to reserve this post for the updates on my collection of tillandsia (aka air plants) and bromeliads. I find these groups of plants the most interesting...

Anyway, just in case you did not know, Tillandsia is a large group of plants belonging to the Bromeliad family, Bromeliaceae.

The pic below on the left, is a pic of my flowering bromeliad, the flower is the white stuff at the centre.. The pic on the right shows part of my air plant collection mounted on a tree.

King Midas and his $990 Golden Tap

I remember a story that i read when i was young, eons ago, King Midas who was a kind king who ruled his kingdom fairly, one day a god granted his a wish and he wished that everything he touched turned into gold. The beautiful flowers in his garden turned toward the sun for light, but when Midas approached and touched them, they stood rigid and gold. The king grew hungry and thin, for each time he tried to eat, he found that his meal had turned to gold. His lovely daughter, at his loving touch, turned hard and fast to gold. His water, his bed, his clothes, his friends, and eventually the whole palace was gold. King Midas regretted the wish that he had made and asked the god to revoke the wish.

Now with alll the NKF hoo haa going around, i actually wonder how much money that is donated is actually used for the patients. The newspaper articles about the extremely high wages and bonus for the CEO, his extravagant ways of flying first class and installing a gold tap worth 990 dollars really irks me.. How can a supposedly charitable organisation become a money making organistation? I have stopped donating the money to them.. all the while, i feel that if you sincerely want to do some charity work, donating money is not the way out because it is a short term kinda thing and you would not know how the money is being used.

SO what are your views on this big whole saga?

have u signed the online anti-NKF petitions: http://www.petitiononline.com/nkfs/petition.html

To Frame or not to frame?

Saw this tagline on a photoframe that i found quite cheeky..

"Be nice, frame everyone, and maybe someday they will frame you..."

for the uninitated,

VERB: FRAME
framed , fram·ing , frames
VERB:
tr.

  1. To make up evidence or contrive events so as to incriminate (a person) falsely.
  2. To enclose in or as if in a frame: frame a painting.

Quite cute... so what do you think?

so you want me to frame you or not leh?

anyway, today got a chance to meet up some distant relatives from Indonesia, my dad's cousins... did not know i got so many relatives there.. wow.. amazing isnt it?

Sunshine in the rain...

Have been hearing this song lately on the radio..

anyone here got the MP3 can send me?

'Sunshine In The Rain' by Bodies without Organs

When I'm in Berlin you're off to London
When I'm in New York you're doing Rome
All those crazy nights we spend together
As voices on the phone

Wishing we could be more telepathic
Tired of the nights I sleep alone
Wishing we could redirect the traffic
And we find ourselves a home

Can you feel the raindrops in the desert
Have you seen the sunrays in the dark
Do you feel my love when I'm not present
Standing by your side while miles apart

Sunshine in the rain
Love is still the same
Sunshine in the rain
Sunshine in the rain
Love is still the same
Sunshine in the rain

Even if we call the highest power
We can only do one town a time
Words are not enough action speaks louder
Second time around

Can you feel the raindrops in the desert
Have you seen the sunrays in the dark
Do you feel my love when I'm not present
Standing by your side while miles apart

Virtual Reality

We live in the new age..

we make friends online..

we order stuff online..

we do so many things online..

But just how real is virtual reality? Is it virtually real or just really virtual??

To me, the internet though has proved to be convenient in terms of helping us to make lives more easy, it has showed a side of its disadvantages to me over the years. I am getting quite sick of how the internet has changed good old fashioned life!

We make friends online, but more then often, we are unable to feel the emotions and yet, we call these people web 'friends'? How often do we know if they are really friends or fiends? Since, just by talking on them on the Internet, we hardly know what they are thinking.

So.. virtual reality is such an oxymoron to me.. Virtual yet real... sigh... you either love it or hate it... I am still deciding on my verdict on it! haha..

Are you what you blog?

Read the newspapers about the action taken by PSC on a scholar that posted racist remarks on his blog.

So are you what you blog?

A blog is suppose to be a record of one's personal life. It makes me feel so weary of what i am going to enter in my blog now. I dun wanna be sued or anything.. who knows how many voyeurs actually read this..

Hmm..

so if u read this, add a comment and tell me man..

Till then .. Take care!

Sad Movies... Only make me cry

have been so busy working recently, that i have no time to update my blog on a regular basis.

Today, watched a show Tiramisu on Channel U. Casts: Nicholas Tse Ting-Fung, Karena Lam Ka-Yan, Eason Chan Yik-Shun Mainpix_tiramisu

Karena Lam plays Jane Chan, a free-spirited dancer who meets an untimely end and must ask for help from deaf mailman/delivery guy Fung (Nicholas Tse). The two met over the course of the day, and upon her death, Jane's spirit became entangled with Fung. Jane informs Fung that she only has seven days to help her dance company and best friend Tina (Cando Lo) compete in a generic Big Dance. It's her life dream and Jane is hellbound to make it happen even if it means taking over Fung's body. Can the rhythm-less Fung become a dancing machine?

When i watched it, i was so touched. Throughout chinese culture, we have had many tales of romance between the living and dead. But this movie had such a modern touch as well as a touching storyline that my eyes were wet...

gosh... i am such a sucker for weepies recently. The movie made me realise that how fortunate we are everyday, sometimes, we must treasure every single things that happens in our day to day life, so that we when we look back at our life, we will not be filled with regrets!

The things in life...

These few days.. i have been thinking back about the past..

i remember how way back in primary school days. My chinese teacher used to tell us.. treasure your primary school friends, for when you grow up, you will realise that the friendship forged during that childhood is the most true and innocent.

It's been 11 years since i left primary school.. looking back, i realised what she said is perfectly correct. Even though the internet has made it possible for people with similar interests to come together and stuff like that, there is still a lot of hidden agenda and back stabbing happening. Where has the true meaning of friendship gone? Friends or just fiends?

Flowering.. Flowering..

Just how nice it is when airplant start to flower.. this is my Tilly2Tillandsia albertiana... impressive striking red colours... sorry for the very poor resolution pics.. cos these were taken using my lousy web camera!!! So to all those who wanna see nicer pics, my birthday is in December.. i wish for a good digital camera in advance ok? haha!!! Will try to get more pics of blooming plants in my collection up soon.. got a lot more blooming recently..

Tilly_1Anyway... here's some info on the plant:

Tillandsia albertiana (all-bear-tee-ah'-na): This plant is native
to the foothills of Argentina where it grows in dense clumps as an epiphyte
on cliffs and rocks. It likes shaded areas and is a fast grower, producing
pups that form a mass in as little as one growing season. The blooms of
this plant are a bright red and quite big in relation to the the plant's size.

TGIF Friday!!!!

Supposed to be study week = study at home week..

could not resist the temptation today to go out!!!muahaha..
went on a shopping spree...

met my friend to go shopping at queensway area.. from there we started off with an orchid shop selling quite a lot of exotics.. the persuasive uncle was sad to say not that... that uncle kinda reminded me of insurance agent.. everything also good.. everything also must buy..
Next went for lunch to the hawker centre there.. most of the stalls not open.. so sad.. so early meh? 1030 already leh... so in the end settled for Bak Kut Teh... eh.. which CMI..

went to Ikea then, to check out the plants section.. not very impressive..
so after that.. decided to go to Far East Flora at Ridout where i bought my unlabelled bottle of fertilzier.. nothing much to buy at that branch.. so after taking a seat at Macdonald's... we were soon overwhelmed by the thought of going to all the nurseries at Thomnson!!!
My first time there.. when i was there.. i was like wow.. this place is incredible.. nearly all kinda plants.. of course some of the plants were not in good condition, especially for the tillandsias (air plant) .. all looked either too dry or over wet. Overall, it was a really enjoyable day.. zipping from place to place.. all that fun!!! super fun..

here.. i would like to thank my new friend, June aka Junde.. for being such a nice tour guide today!

Moanday... sian...

Monday Blues!!! The rain just simply adds to how sucky this Monday has been.. Raining since morning..
This week is exam week!!!!!
argh... so stressed..
looking my AP chemistry.. trying my best to absob as much as i can.. its really quite confusing haha.. sheesh.. i actually wondered how i managed to study all this last time during A levels.. quite suprising that 2 years in the army can actually induce memory lapse.. :P
anyway.. today found armour bugs on my tillandsia diaguitensis.. pesky bugs.. luckily i managed to find them before they suck my plant dry... irritating parasites.. the thing about them is they are so small.. just the size of a full stop.. and that makes sporting them so difficult..
Guess gotta start revising already.. so man.. so stressed!!!!

Sunday - turn left, turn right

Sunday.. another slack day at home..

distributed some GCS cards today..

managed to get a very nice show on Channel U today ..

It's turn left, turn right!!! I have not always been a big fan of chinese shows... but this one just caught me watching it.. a really great plot! Very touching too, i must say... really got my heart at this one.. It taught me that, somewhere out there, someone is really waiting for me...
awwww... so sweet right?Turn_left_turn_right_a

haha
