Tillandsia updates

Today, i am going to reserve this post for the updates on my collection of tillandsia (aka air plants) and bromeliads. I find these groups of plants the most interesting...

Anyway, just in case you did not know, Tillandsia is a large group of plants belonging to the Bromeliad family, Bromeliaceae.

The pic below on the left, is a pic of my flowering bromeliad, the flower is the white stuff at the centre.. The pic on the right shows part of my air plant collection mounted on a tree.

After the event, we, or rather my 5 other classmates, did the stunt of squeezing into the rear passgenger seats of our form teacher, Mr Lim's car. Amazing stunt.. move over NKF charity show, here comes DCP charity show... lolz..

King Midas and his $990 Golden Tap

I remember a story that i read when i was young, eons ago, King Midas who was a kind king who ruled his kingdom fairly, one day a god granted his a wish and he wished that everything he touched turned into gold. The beautiful flowers in his garden turned toward the sun for light, but when Midas approached and touched them, they stood rigid and gold. The king grew hungry and thin, for each time he tried to eat, he found that his meal had turned to gold. His lovely daughter, at his loving touch, turned hard and fast to gold. His water, his bed, his clothes, his friends, and eventually the whole palace was gold. King Midas regretted the wish that he had made and asked the god to revoke the wish.

Now with alll the NKF hoo haa going around, i actually wonder how much money that is donated is actually used for the patients. The newspaper articles about the extremely high wages and bonus for the CEO, his extravagant ways of flying first class and installing a gold tap worth 990 dollars really irks me.. How can a supposedly charitable organisation become a money making organistation? I have stopped donating the money to them.. all the while, i feel that if you sincerely want to do some charity work, donating money is not the way out because it is a short term kinda thing and you would not know how the money is being used.

SO what are your views on this big whole saga?

have u signed the online anti-NKF petitions: http://www.petitiononline.com/nkfs/petition.html

To Frame or not to frame?

Saw this tagline on a photoframe that i found quite cheeky..

"Be nice, frame everyone, and maybe someday they will frame you..."

for the uninitated,

VERB: FRAME
framed , fram·ing , frames
VERB:
tr.

  1. To make up evidence or contrive events so as to incriminate (a person) falsely.
  2. To enclose in or as if in a frame: frame a painting.

Quite cute... so what do you think?

so you want me to frame you or not leh?

anyway, today got a chance to meet up some distant relatives from Indonesia, my dad's cousins... did not know i got so many relatives there.. wow.. amazing isnt it?
