Today's entry pretty late... cos i just came back from AVA Food Safety Awards Night, held at Pan Pacific, where I received a certificate on behalf of my company.

All the high profile people in the food industries, like Lim Chee Guan, Dodo Fish ball were there.. so inspiring!!! Motivational too!

The king and the clown...

A movie i feel like watching.. but seems like no one willing to watch with me..

The film "The King and the Clown" has been nominated for 15 categories at the 43rd Daejong Film Festival slated to open on July 21. The number is the most categories a single film has ever been nominated for in the festival's history.

The effects and setting from the film trailer looks impressive..

Synopsis from offical website: http://www.festivefilms.com/kingandtheclown/

Jang-seng (KAM Woo-sung) and Gong-gil (LEE Joon-ki) belong to the same acting group on the road in the years of the infamous King Yon-san, during the Chosun Dynasty. One day, they go to Seoul and their group hit the jackpot by playing a show about the King (JUNG Jin-young) and his lady, femme fatale, Nok-soo (KANG Sung-yeon) But soon they get arrested for insulting the royal king and Jang-seng bet their lives to make the King laugh with their play. Their fortunate success leads them to stay in the palace and perform regular plays. As the King shows growing attraction and love towards Gong-gil, Nok-soo who is out of control of her lust and envy for Gong-gil, as the king turns his back to her, secretly plots to take Gong-gil's life.

The theme song sounds so nice... even though i dont understand Korean.. I must admit.. I did not catch the K drama craze when it first started years back. But seeing this nice music video has somehow struck a chord deep within..

The music vid:

So anyone wanna watch the movie with me???

Building bridges... not barriers..

I stumbled upon this very meaningful parable today:

THE PARABLE OF THE FENCE

Once upon a time there was a little boy who was talented, creative, handsome, and extremely bright. A natural leader. The kind of person everyone would normally have wanted on their team or project. But he was also self-centered and had a very bad temper. When he got angry, he usually said, and often did, some very hurtful things. In fact, he seemed to have little regard for those around him. Even friends. So, naturally, he had few. "But," he told himself, "that just shows how stupid most people are!"

As he grew, his parents became concerned about this personality flaw, and pondered long and hard about what they should do. Finally, the father had an idea. And he struck a bargain with his son. He gave him a bag of nails, and a BIG hammer. "Whenever you lose your temper," he told the boy, "I want you to really let it out. Just take a nail and drive it into the oak boards of that old fence out back. Hit that nail as hard as you can!"

Of course, those weathered oak boards in that old fence were almost as tough as iron, and the hammer was mighty heavy, so it wasn't nearly as easy as it first sounded. Nevertheless, by the end of the first day, the boy had driven 37 nails into the fence. (That was one angry young man!) Gradually, over a period of weeks, the number dwindled down. Holding his temper proved to be easier than driving nails into the fence! Finally the day came when the boy didn't lose his temper at all. He felt mighty proud as he told his parents about that accomplishment.

"As a sign of your success," his father responded, "you get to PULL OUT one nail. In fact, you can do that each day that you don't lose your temper even once."Well, many weeks passed. Finally one day the young boy was able to report proudly that all the nails were gone.

At that point, the father asked his son to walk out back with him and take one more good look at the fence. "You have done well, my son," he said. "But I want you to notice the holes that are left. No matter what happens from now on, this fence will never be the same. Saying or doing hurtful things in anger produces the same kind of result. There will always be a scar. It won't matter how many times you say you're sorry, or how many years pass, the scar will still be there. And a verbal wound is as bad as a physical one. People are much more valuable than an old fence. They make us smile. They help us succeed. Some will even become friends who share our joys, and support us through bad times. And, if they trust us, they will also open their hearts to us. That means we need to treat everyone with love and respect. We need to prevent as many of those scars as we can."

A most valuable lesson, don't you think? And a reminder most of us need from time to time. Everyone gets angry occasionally. The real test is what we DO with it. Scripture recognizes this when it cautions us, "Be angry and do not sin." (Ephesians 4:26) And an old Hebrew proverb (18:19) reminds us, "A brother offended is harder to win than a strong city, and contentions are like the bars of a castle."

If we are wise, we will spend our time building bridges rather than barriers in our relationships.

so meaningful, guess i wanna build more bridges liao.... real bridges.. not like Magneto's bridge... if u get wat i mean.. muahaha...

False Alarm and a miracle..

Have you ever had the experience of losing something you find sentimental?

A nightmare unfolded right before my very eyes this morning, nopz, its not the NIGHTMARE BEFORE SCHOOL REOPENS, but rather, this morning, when i was about to go to work, i discovered part of something sentimental to me missing!!! I sure term this 'my future', yep... my future cos it is part of another 2 items, which are 'past' and 'present'.

It flung me into a flury not only because it was of deep sentimental value to me, but also it kinda stirred up omninous reactions in me, that i felt was an omen to the future... something to do with the story of the object. I shant share the story here, cos it's so personal.. haha...

Anyway, looking up high and low to find the item only proved futile. After the morning search for the needle in the haystack, i gave up when i realised that i was running late for work. The drive to work was such a dangerous one, as my mind only taught about 'future' and nothing else. My driving technique seemed to function on auto cruise method when i drove not fully aware of the traffic situation...

When i reached my work place, i felt even worse cos i thought i must have misplaced 'future' there. But i still could not find it..

After confiding in my pal, MDD, who offered me advice and said a prayer for me to find my 'future', i felt a little at ease, but the thought of 'future' still made me feel so lost.

Finally after knocking off from work, i headed back home, to continue to the hunt for 'future' . Up and down, high and low, i gave up, i was so sad about missing 'future' that i nearly broke down. The whole world seem to just like crash without 'future'. I realised that everyday i would take for granted the presence of 'past','present' and 'future', without actually treasuring the true meaning behind it.

After what seemed to be hunting for eternity for 'future', a miracle unfolded before me, I finally found 'future' in my shirt pocket. Which was totally strange for me.. cos for whole day, I did not even feel it there. Nonetheless, I was so elated at seeing 'future' again, literally jumping with joy at the miracle.

Taught me to treasure my 'past', 'present' and 'future'. Of course, thank you so much to MDD for all the comforting words and the prayer.

Art Attack!!

I always hated hands-on ART in real life...

so messy.. got to design, cut, colour... so troublesome...

but what changed my perception of art to be that messy and tedious changed when MDD brought me to an art supplies shop yesterday at Ngee Ann City... they sold everything from nice fancy paper to special brushes to pre cut foam boards to mannequeins... so impressive range of stuff... that i actually bought some stuff there for my assignment of food packaging, which required me to show the artistic side of me (which i normally have zero) on a self made paper carton..

Well, at least, got people to help me with the colour coordination.. and i had already come up with some concept that i had in mind....

haha..

anyway, here's the pic of the thing i just started working on:

Supermarket walk again.... 3 times in 3 weeks

This is the 3rd time i went to a supermarket to check out ingredients for my report this school holidays.. i think the staff there see us.. see until sian liao..
spend so much time there.. but never buy anything.. lol..

anyway, today was quite an eventful day in terms of makan therapy.. cos i went to Din Tai Fung whis is apparently named by the NY Times as being one of the Top 10 restaurants in the world.

Being famed for the xiao long bao (literally, little dragon dumplings) , one can see long queus during peak hours awiting to try the delicacy. I like that restaurant particularly due to the fact that the dumplings are folded manually, and are not some products mass produced by machines. In fact you can watch them go through in the glass window when doing on the little folds in each dumpling by hand. The skin is very thin too, which is the mark of distinction for quality - just be careful when picking it up so as not to poke through and let all the broth out (try to master the spoon and hole-bite technique). There is actually a step by step guide of the cover of the disposable chopsticks on how to appreciate the dumplings. We had La mien today.. along with the famous dumplings.

Pic: Xiao Long Bao and La mien delight!!!

After which, we resumed to do our research at the supermarket and the libraries for more info... Work never ends.

Next on the food trail was The V tea Room at Esplanade, where we sampled nice cakes and drinks...

Life's just so shiok when you can work and enjoy at the same time.. Thats how life should be....

The nightmare before school reopens!!!

It's the last week of the school holidays...
but realised that most of my homework is half done..
gosh... major nighmare..

it's amazing how the minor minor homework all add up to become a major headache!

I think the e learning system of school in really not working well.. because the server crashes so often.. and it is unable to take it when the whole school seems to be online.

The navigational aspects of the website is horrible.. there should be a checklist in real time to keep us updated on which tasks are outstanding.. and which tasks are done already..

Kitty Hit and Run

Today, was driving when i saw someone rescuing a kitty that was involved in at hit and run accident. So sad, especially when i saw the girl dragging the near lifeless body of the cat to the centre road divider.

Very reckless of the driver, especially, since the road is a quiet one, the accident could have been easily avoided. Really admire the girl for her guts to 'rescue' the cat!

Royal Garfield and Bad Service at the Western restaurant

Watched Garfield: The tale of 2 kitties.. very cute and hilarious show.. brings back good childhood memories of the cartoon character, Garfield!!!!

Cute, cuddly and adorable!

After the movie, went to a western restaurant at Hereen that was famous for its retro settings..
Was certainly put off by the lack of customer service and the lousy bad food...

We wanted to sit at the couch seats.. but the waitress told us to sit nearby while she cleared the seats, so while we were sitting down at a nearby table looking thru the menu, another waitress showed a group of ang moh gals to the table that we wanted to sit. When the waitress saw what happened, she merely spoke to the other waitress in Singlish loudly behind our back "Why like that? That group wanted to sit that leh..."

So damn rude, she doesnt even have the courtesy to aplogize for the incident to the client first. Are we transparent to her? This goes to show the lack of communication skills within the staff. When i complained to she shift manager, the shift manager said she would get the 2 waitress to apologize to me.. but WTH, its a lack of iniative and insincerity......

Next the food i ate was so gross, ordered sea food platter set meal.. the fish tasted so mushy inside.. i think it was fried for a very long time liao.. tasted so gross... my friend, MDD got his beef burger medium rare as requested, but the worst thing is that minced meat was used to make the burger patty.. so morsels of bloody raw red meat started to fall apart upon eating.. UTTERLY GROSS was the ice cream.. which had ice crystals forming on the surface already.. must have been scooped way before hand and placed in the freezer to refreeze... yucks!!!

I think this is the 2nd time i encountered such service at that restaurant.. no more chance for that restaurant liao.. kena blacklisted!!!

Learning to Fail...

Today, I accompanied my friend for advance driving theory test... waited at Kampung Ubi Driving Centre for quite some time for him.. When he came out, i was expecting him to pass, but he told me he failed.. and was quite sad..

Which kinda reminds me that often, we only expect ourself to win a match.. but we are often unable to accept failure..

"There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure." Colin Powell

Thus, it can be seen that failure is part and parcel of our live.. Only by accepting failure and knowing what went wrong, will we be able to succeed in the things we do...

Anyway, a BIG HI to my friend, dav, who i meet today at TCC at Citylink.. nice coincidental meeting.. Take care!

Somewhere over the rainbow...

Somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high,
There's a land that I heard of
Once in a lullaby.

Somewhere over the rainbow
Skies are blue,
And the dreams that you dare to dream
Really do come true.
Someday I'll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are farBehind me.

Where troubles melt like lemon drops
Away above the chimney tops
That's where you'll find me.
Somewhere over the rainbowBluebirds fly.
Birds fly over the rainbow.
Why then, oh why can't I?
If happy little bluebirds flyBeyond the rainbow
Why, oh why can't I?

Food... always on my mind..

I just realised that after taking up food tech as an option in my studies.. I have been spending more time analysing food.. as well as going to supermarkets for more market researches..

Today... was at some supermarkets... managed to find some interesting foods.. like vaccum packed shell fish, black pepper crab and thai green curry.. kinda interesting.. think during the World Cup Craze, more people are stocking up on ready to eat meals so that they can remain glued onto their TV sets..

Hope this files are much faster to load..
as i took them using my HP phone cam..

Anyway...
went to eat Jap food twice today... lunch at Ramen Ten.. nice ramen.. special thanks to the chef, Victor!
Then for dinner, we went to Ichiban at Suntec City.. Nice food.. we had lobster sushi, and curry rice set dinner.. ate until cannot move liao...

Some pics:

Here is MDD being happy with his lobster sushi... haha
