It's back!

Finally i got my replacement card from UOB today..
but waiting for it to be activated.. still got to send some verification slip via snail mail to the bank, dont know why in this era, such activation cant be done online...

Anyway.. today i had Japanese food for both lunch and dinner.. yepz... Japanese chicken curry rice set for both meals.. gosh... thankfully Japanese curry does not have coconut milk in it.. so its less sinful compared to the other Asian forms of curry.

Look at the live lobsters in the fish tank at the restaurant I had lunch at... Think if u order lobster sashimi, they will just scoop up the lobster from the tank.. and slice it fresh for you.. :P

Above pics shows an 'artistic' pic of sushi plates..

Alright, gotta go.. feeling a little sick.. probably due to the fact that I was caught in the rain in the afternoon after lunch... IADF!

If only life was so simple...

If only life was so simple to have a delete button where we can delete all unhappy memories of the past...

I know it sounds too far fetched.. just like the movie 'Click'... haha.. but sometimes.. I just wish my brain would be able to block off such incidences... dunno why.. perhaps.. I have been feeling too stressed recently..

Money - The sensitive issue

Looks like another saga about the funds of charity organisations is fast brewing up in Singapore again just when the previous hoo haa about NKF has slowly subsided and taken a back stage with the recent probe into Youth Challenge. I think this is going to have a big impact on a lot of other charitable organisations. Organisations that are really in need will again have problems raising funds since most people will actually be more wary when it comes to donating money.

Recently, I was also asked by some over enthusiastic teenagers at Bugis area to buy some donation tickets. I just felt that they were being too pushy.. some even resorted to selling the tickets in shopping centres, which is really too far overboard. I remember that in my JC days, when we sold flags for fund raising, we were specifically told not to seek donations in shopping centres as well as at MRT stations.

Another money issue for me is that I finally got back the money that was charged to me twice by mistake due to some stupid mistake.. Please read my previous posts.. But then again, I had my card cancelled and reissued by the bank. Why? Cos I dont feel secure telling all my card particulars like card no., expiry date, name on card and even the printed security no.s to some stuff from the company over the phone. God knows how such information can be used to make purchases else where. Now, that card is cancelled and awaiting a new card.. Hopefully, it can reach me in time before I go to Sydney. So many problems just because of one error..

Being overcharged for nothing....

Was checking my account balances after my shopping spree yesterday, got a shock of my life when i had so little money left in my account. As most of my expenses were still not reflected on my Internet banking, I called UOB card centre to check. And guess what??? There was an entry that was repeated twice in the transaction history when i paid for something!!!!!!

Flashback: sorry sir, we ran out of paper while printing your credit card receipt, kindly please sign on this reprint of the receipt.

So that was what happened to me yesterday that caused the problems in billing. Kinda amazed that such a thing will actually happen.. But hey, at least i checked my expenses, if not, would not even be aware that such thing did happen. So moral of the story: always check your statements regularly.

Luckily for me, the merchant involved is willing to refund me the money in cash at any of their branches, just have to go and show the receipt and show be okay. But I have not gotten my money back yet. Will update when I got the $$ back....

Spent dinner eating at New Park Hotel's Thai theme international buffet today..

There were a bunch of horrible hungry souls.. mind you.. its still the lunar seventh month.. cos its a leap year this year and in the lunar calendar, a leap year is denoted with having an additional month. Those 'souls' were literally heaping their plates with heaps and heaps of food, and were like rushing as though the 'gates' were closing any time. Cant stand such ugly behaviour, it makes the general perception of Singaporeans to be so 'kiasu'. I even remember there was this big fat b*tch that even cut into my queue at the buffet table.. ..

These people really wanna make 101% value of their money!

It's over.... At least I hope...

Yes.. Mummy.. it's over!!! Hahaha.. doesnt it sounds just like the "Just for Laughs" closing scene? Well.. the exams are finally over.. I dont really know to feel happy.. cos i am pretty worried about the last paper today.. which was biotech.. mind in a blank.. questions looked like Greek to me.. argghh... let's not talk about it..

After the nerve wrecking exam paper, I headed on down to Chinatown to eat Dim Sum @ Yum Cha!!! Nice traditional dim sum served, i loved the egg tarts!!! So yummy and flaky!!! Actually, the main purpose of going to Chinatown was to change Aussie currency for my trip to Sydney in early September.. Yes, I will be going to Sydney..not for holiday.. but rather on a technical seminar.. hopefully, there will be leisure time to go shopping, relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the city before the exam results are out!

So after accomplishing my mission of exchanging currency, went on a hunt for a birthday gift for my mum, whose birthday is fast approaching.. then bought myself a leather bag from Espirit!! For once, i encountered good service at a local shop!! I shall cover more on this good service thing when i get my bag.. cos i still have not gotten my bag at this moment in time!

Window shopped at Raffles shopping arcade too... the things are so expensive.. but so nice!!! Love the George Jensen stuff... Also went to Actually.. the jeans there are so nice.. but the price tag sure is hefty.. but the bags made of recycled tyre material looks so cool and unique!

Ate nice Japanese ice cream at a Japanese restaurant Azabu Sabo at Marina Square.. love the taste of the soft serve ice cream which complemented the green tea ice cream, jelly and fruits.. Real refreshing for a hot tropical day in Singapore..

My half eaten ice cream... hehe

Dropped by C328 on the way back, tempted to get some new fishes for a small 2 feet tank.. revamping the tank soon.. oh no.. more $$$ spent!!!

Ok, going to sleep.. had such an eventful day today! Going to focus on FYP soon.. more stress!

mRNA, Enzymes, GM....

I am now taking a break from revising through my biotech notes.. so much terminology and calculations to remember.. Really worrying that I might just blank out before going for the last paper tommorrow..

Anyway.. hot off the press today was the news that "Apple Computer to pay Creative US$100m to settle patent dispute"

Excerpt from Channelnewsasia:

SAN FRANCISCO : Apple Computer announced on Wednesday it would pay Singapore-listed Creative Technology US$100 million to settle a dispute over patented technology used in iPod and Nano MP3 players. The deal ended a budding legal battle that began earlier this month after Creative was awarded what it referred to as a "Zen patent" on technology used to select and sort songs in its Zen MP3 player. Creative went to US court, and the US International Trade Commission, to accuse Apple of infringing on its patent by using the technology in iPod and Nano players. "Creative is very fortunate to have been granted this early patent," Apple chief executive Steve Jobs said in a statement. "This settlement resolves all of our differences with Creative, including the five lawsuits currently pending between the companies, and removes the uncertainty and distraction of prolonged litigation." Apple would pay Creative 100 million dollars for a license to use the technology and would be able to recover some of the money if Creative licensed the patent to others, according to the companies. Under the terms of the settlement, Creative, an Apple rival in the MP3 player market, would also begin marketing its own line of iPod accessories as part of Apple's "Made for iPod" program. "We're very pleased to have reached an amicable settlement with Apple and to have opened up significant new opportunities for Creative," said Creative chairman and CEO Sim Wong Hoo. "Apple has built a huge ecosystem for its iPod and with our upcoming participation in the Made for iPod program we are very excited about this new market opportunity." Creative expected the licensing windfall to boost its current fiscal quarter earnings by 85 cents per share. - AFP/ch

Well seems like Creative going to get a huge sum of money soon!!! But how come my free MP3 from a redemption programme partly organised by them take so long to come??? Waiting for so long already.. sent email to their helpdesk also no reply.. wonder how they actually work...

Ok.. back to books time!

Gathering Plans... and Exam Stress

Oh gosh.. I am so stressed today.. trying so hard to memorise EMP pathways and stuff... headache.. i think after chemical engineering, biotechnology is the next most dreaded topic.

Today, made plans to organise Primary School Gathering for my Pri 6 class mates. Looking forward to seeing them at Vila'ge on 2nd September.. Been some time since i last saw them during Christmas last year. Wonder how are things with them.. i know one of them has become a tai tai already.. enjoying married life.. and even telling me to make a particular date free next year to attend her wedding dinner. Boy oh boy, i really can't wait!!!

And a good thing about the venue and date is that there is a promotion now on... so lucky.. 30% discount!!!

But first, gotta pass the first hurdle of Biotechnology on Friday! Somebody help me!!!!!!! Arrggghhh....

The real life story of the cactus

Long ago before the Sahara Desert was formed, lived an evergreen, happy-go-lucky plant on the lush green pastures. When mankind started to exploit the bountiful resources of the land, desertification took place and the climate of the place slowly changed to the arid conditions of today. Out off desperation, mankind started to pull bits and pieces of the plant to quench their thirst for a clean source of water.

Initially, the plant felt hurt, but thought of the pain it withstood as for a great cause, and bore with the pain. However, after repeated toture from mankind. The poor plant lost its sense of confidence in mankind and slowly evolved into a plant with many thorns. It decided that whoever tried to slash it for water, would get injured in the process with its many thorns.

Days passed... months passed... years passed... the cactus felt relieved that no one dared to bully it anymore cos of its spikes and thorns. It eventually got used to the arid environment it was being brought up in, and started to bear buds on the crown of the cactus.

One day, a little kid walked up to the cactus and commented on how pretty the bud was forming. Seeing that there were no spikes near the flower bud, the kid decided to pick the flower, leaving the cactus behind in pain and agony.....

Shouldnt the cactus have learnt from its mistakes not to trust mankind again? And grow more thorns and spikes to protect itself?

The calm before the storm...

It's just one day before my 2nd paper for the semestral exams.

Went to school in the morning to go revise. Tried to find the past year exam papers but apparently, they are not released. Only a sample paper that contained 3 questions (one MCQ, one structured question and one long question) was available. And that paper was dated 2000. Dunno what has happened since 2000. Stuck somewhere in space? Or the lecturer is being environmental friendling by reducing worklad, reusing and recycling exam questions. Kinda weird not having a paper to practise on before going for the exam tommorrow. Hopefully everything will be fine.

Anyway, went to Suntec City to destress... Went to Soup Restaurant to eat. Yummy steamed samsui chicken. Love the ginger sauce. So nice!! Then accompanied MDD to arcade to play his Daytona arcade game. Yea.. its not me that is stressed, more like him.. haha..

On the way back home, dropped by C328 to get the Emperor Red Hook fish that i was eyeing for a super long time as well another catfish.

Pics of my Emperor Red Hook (sorry for the flash).. hoped that the bar on the body would be more defined and the fins will grow nicer..

My twig catfish aka helicopter... cos of the shape of the fish:

Gosh.. spent so much money today.. getting broke..

1 down, 3 more to go!!!!

Today had Food Flavours exam. Pretty lucky that it was pretty manageable... but kinda tiring cos i had only about 3 hours of sleep yesterday... Spent the rest of the night revising for the paper with MDD, who could not really remember certain details.. tiring.. I hope i do well.. and he does well too... if not waste my time!!

After paper, went to town to eat.. City Hall's Market Place has certainly changed a lot, with more upmarket eateries and shops selling knick knacks. Really an extreme makeover. Eat at Mos Burgers then went to Polar Cafe to help MDD with Food Packaging Revision.

1 down - Food Flavours
3 more to go - Food Packaging, Food Process Engineering A, Food Biotechnology..

Argh..... somebody help me!!!

Breeks for Lunch!

Today.. went to sch for revision for Food Flavours... finally finishing with all the revision for this module... Nearly had to eat cold sandwiches for breakfast cos the vending machine dispensing sandwiches had some problem with the heating process.Repaired laptop for someone too..

Headed to Breeks at Marina Square for lunch! Brought back memories of JC days.. I remember on the very last paper of the A levels. I went to Breeks at Marina Square for lunch with my JC mates.. The good old days.. seemed so far away. The menu at Breeks have changed since those days.. nonetheless, i enjoyed the food and the company i had today!

managed to find this pic on my PC...

So you think you can sing?

It's the eve of Singapore's National Day!!!

Stumbled across this interesting video on you tube...

Apparently not many people can sing the national anthem and pronounce the words accurately...

When was the last time you sung the national anthem?

Click...

I watched Click today.. the movie that stars Adam Sandler who is given a magic gift of a universal remote control, that not only controls his TV, but controls his whole life. Now that he's using the remote on a regular basis, his work-life and family-life are finally in balance, he's trying harder than he ever imagined to spend more time with his family.

It was a very hilarious show... what can you expect from Adam Sandler anyway... but nearer the end of the show, it got kinda sad and at times, heart warming... It's a comedy.. but essentially, it put across the values of treasuring your relationships subtly.

The sound track of the movie was pretty good too... Particularly the song 'Linger' by The Craneberries:

If you, if you could return,
don't let it burn, don't let it fade.
I'm
sure I'm not being rude,
but it's just your attitude,
It's tearing me
apart, It's ruining everything.
I swore, I swore I would be true, and honey,
so did you.
So why were you holding her hand?
Is that the way we stand?
Were you lying all the time?
Was it just a game to you?
But I'm in
so deep.
You know I'm such a fool for you.
You got me wrapped around
your finger, ah, ha, ha.
Do you have to let it linger?
Do you have to,
do you have to, Do you have to let it linger?

The message of treasuring relationships will definitely linger for quite a while :p

Sick Sick Sick!!!

I'm down with the flu, sore throat, fever and headache. It's times like this when you just need to lie in bed and rest...

The sad thing is that i cant afford to.. I got so many committments that even lying on bed, my mind wonders to things that have not been completed, especially for FYP, upcoming exams and other matters.

Been offerring help and advice recently to quite a few people who have had problems with aspects in their lives... maybe their problems have rubbed onto me as well..

Perhaps, I'm not just sick physically but also mentally and emotionally. Who can offer me help when i need it myself?

Rules (and regulations) are meant to be broken.

Was eating lunch at a open-roof top restaurant at Holland Village today where I used a voucher that indicated a 1 for 1 meal (pasta or pizza) upon presentation of voucher.

What suprised me later was when i paid for the bill later, i was not able to enjoy the other benefits of paying using UOB cards which entitled me to 10% off non-promotional items. Not trying to be stingy here, but the voucher stated that the voucher was not supposed to be used in conjunction with other promotions.. that's fair... But what about the drinks and other stuff that we ate, those were not covered by that voucher... shouldnt that be entitled to the privelleges as stipulated by the card? It's not about that few dollars.. but rather the ethics and committment that the stuff have. A good loop hole would have occurred if i paid for the promotional items first to enjoy the privellege and ordered more non-promotional items later to enjoy the card privelleges.

If its hard to key in such promotional items and non-promotional items together, they should take the iniative to split the bills for such incidences. Disappointed with their level of service!!!

Anyway, i'm getting down with flu, fever and sore throat... Guess the stress from various sources is slowly taking a toll on my health.... arghhhh..... help me!!!!

Reliving the days of childhood

My days of childhood seemed so far... today... i had the opportunity to relive my childhood days...

It all started with a nice meal at Carl's Jr at Plaza Singapura, before i collected my MP3 player from Samsung which i had sent in a week earlier due to a faulty HDD problem. The meal portions at Carl's Jr are really in proportion to the price at which they are priced. Cos not only are they huge, they are quite expensive for fast food which is generalyl deemed to be affordable. 2 meal sets with milk shakes cost us 23 over dollars. Thats like 11 over dollars per set.

After the meal, went to Millenia Walk to study.. cos there is a final test for PQM module next Monday. The studying part was rather short, as due to accumulated stress and some other factors, i found myself in the arcade at Suntec City. It has been ages since i actually played something at the arcade. And actually, i got something small from this slot machine kinda game... it might be small.. but hey.. i won something from the arcade afterall.. haha.. not as lucky as someone who won the entire set of toys... who by the way was so happy like a small kid...

Blog Makeover

No no no..

It's not some Extreme Makeover ala reality TV style.. but rather.. i decided to change the look of my blog to feature some pics on the right side navigation column. That's due to popular demand by the visitors on my blog.. haha.

Anyway, school seems to be more and more slack.. despite the fact that exams coming, I dont feel the exam heat.. so strange.. instead, i feel more stress coming from finishing my FYP... which is a real big headache.. samples not in.. people not working.. sigh.. do i have that high expectations?
