Amethyst and Kunzite

Got a piece of carved amethyst today as well as a nice faceted kunzite...

When I went to my friend's place.. I realised that the amethyst had an air bubble in it... and could possibly be just purple glass.. went back to the shop. Thankfully, the shop keeper was nice and allowed me to change another piece...
Anyway... I really like the kunzite a lot... its really at an affordable price.. apparently the owners have a mine in Madagascar!
Here's the pic:

Error logging onto Intranet

Been trying to log in to my school's Intranet for the whole day!!!!!!

Been I kept getting an error message invalid user id and/or password.

Called the help line and was told that I have been logged out after multiple attempts....

Turned out that my password had expired... and I had to log into the identity management system to reset my password... utter waste of time.. what a slave to technology...

Anyway... exam's schedule out!!!!

Scary... I can already feel the stress:

Christmas - Giving, caring and sharing

Christmas : a time for giving and sharing.. Somehow... without fail each year, I always count the number of greetings that I receive and compare it with those that I send.

Disappointment always overcomes me when I realise that I received much lesser then what I gave. Especially so since this year, I took a lot of time and effort to find someone, whom I regarded as a a very good friend, a gift. But I did not even receive a word of thanks or any festive greeting from this person.

Perhaps, I really detest being taken for granted....

Was at the fish shop today after work, browsing thru the tanks full of fishes and starting to stock up on my fish supplies, since in the next upcoming months, I will probably be busy preparing myself for all the Chinese New Year sales.

Something caught my eye, in a corner of a tank, a dark looking discus with its fins ripped off, with signs of recovery from a bad nasty infection of sorts, I examined the words written in a haphazardly manner on the glass tank wall and read " San Merah x Golden"

Thru a stroke of fate, the store keeper passed by and saw me looking at the injured fish.

"That fish's sick! Injured, with its torn fins, it will probably never make it, no one will buy it... you can have it for free if you want!"

I thought to myself quietly, should I just simply just walk away? Pay to get a better looking fish since tank space is scarce and I should reserve it only for fishes that are should be deemed a beauty to our eyes?

Overcome by thoughts on how the fish would probably suffer if left in the shop without proper care, i decided to adopt it, and thus left the shop with bags of stuff,

When I reached home and released the fish into my tank with a suitable setup, a sense of warmth filled my heart.

Though, I did not receive gifts and not as much greetings from my friends, I felt happy...
Happy to be able to save a life that was not capable of fending itself...
Happy to be able to save a life that is deemed to be imperfect...

It really made understand the true meaning of Christmas... Physical numbers are just imagery, what matters is the experience of truly being able to give, care and share...

I'm grateful to be able to learn much from this deformed discus... and of course, hope that it will grow well under my care....

Have a merry Christmas....

Cockroach infestation!!!

I had enough!!!

More then enough!!!

Saw cockroaches running about at the drink stores of the same food court I was complaining about yesterday!!!

The roaches were running about at the straw area.. wonder if they had infested the straws! So now, you know what's that crunchy little thing you were sucking up from your drink.. eeeww...

Think its time to call NEA about this!

Rogue Roach

I just got back from Lunch at Horizon Food Mall at Causeway Point, feeling utterly disgusted after a meal!!!

There was this live cockroach crawling on the plate of fried fish and it was only observed after the meal was almost finished!!!

When I brought it back to the store holder, all she could say was paiseh, and that their store was very clean, cockroach could have crawled up from somewhere.

This incident just reminds me of the Prima Deli incident again!!! How so?

The store at the Horizon Food Mall had an 'A' grading from NEA, and yet roaches are still found in its premises, worst still on its dishes... Really wonder, how effective are such ratings, since they are only based on the time of the inspection?

Henry Park Primary School 1994 Class of 6E : Xmas Gathering 2007!

Every Christmas, I look forward particularly to a gathering, which is none other then one where friends of some 13 years gather together at my former Primary School Form Teacher's place to just sit, chat and relive old memories.

This year not different, the amount of food was so sumptous, that we had to takeway a lot of it.

One of the highlights of this year's gathering, was the games!!!! Yes, without fail each year, our kind hostess, never fails to prepare interesting games for us, her students... I still remember, last year, when sudoku was all the rage in Singapore, we had to wreck our brains after a hard days work to solve the puzzle. This year was slightly better, we were promised a game that did not involve much mental activity!!! Getting in pairs and given a stack of 20 cards, we had to arrange them to form a structure that was 3 storeys high!!! Gasp!!!

Another event full of merry and laughter was the gift exchange!!! Our dear lawyer friend, Ms Cindy Lim, brought such a nice wrapper last minute, it was wrapped in tissue and of course, we were all teasing her as to how it looked like used tissue paper from someone who had flu! :p Thankfully, her gift turned out to be a pair of cufflinks! Moral of the story: Just a the common adage, never judge a book by its cover, we shouldn't judge a gift by its wrapper too...

Really, I am already looking forward to my next gathering with my Henry Park Primary School Classmates... Merry X'mas Guys!!!

I had enough....

.... of match makings!!!!!

Stop trying to 'match make' me with other 'suitable candiates'!!!!!!!!!!

Was at another cousins wedding today at Civil Service Club at Bukit Batok.

And I was naturally being marketed to 'potential candiates' at the ceremony. Really cant stand it!!!

How early should i get married... no C's at all at the moment... highly unfavourable position.. I dont want to end up in a big 'C" , ala coffin... as we all know.. marriage is like a tombstone... lol...

Salmonella : a new threat in Singapore?

16 people fall ill with food poisoning at Sentosa Golf Club
By Chua Su Sien/Wong Siew Ying, Channel NewsAsia Posted: 21 December 2007 1933 hrs

SINGAPORE : Sixteen people fell ill with food poisoning after participating in a seminar at the Sentosa Golf Club on Tuesday.

They subsequently tested positive for Salmonella strain D.

Sentosa Golf Club then arranged for full medical checks on eight food handlers involved in the event.

Among them, a chef was found to be carrying the bacteria, Salmonella strain C.

National Environment Agency (NEA) and Ministry of Health (MOH) officials have referred 16 food handlers at the restaurant for medical screening and the results will be known later.

Sentosa said all its kitchen staff will undergo medical checks and will only return to work after being given a clean bill of health.

Although two different strains have emerged in this incident, Sentosa Leisure Group said the Golf Club has decided to shut its kitchen as an added precaution.

NEA and MOH officials who conducted an inspection found the premises to be well maintained.

Sentosa Leisure Group added that the other two restaurants at the Golf Club were unaffected by the incident as they operate from separate kitchens. - CNA/ms

Seems like salmonella is getting quite widespread after the Prima incident... coincidence or isolated case??? Quite hard to tell.. certainly hope that it doesnt lead to more outbreaks.

Writing Xmas Cards

Just realised that I have nearly forgotten to write my Christmas cards out to my dear friends... a good tradition that I always do every year... bye to virtual cards, they lack the sincerity.....

Better start writing and posting before I get bogged down by work again and forget all about it!

Today we were supposed to have our class gathering for AFT at Amara hotel, but it was called off last minute... I guess it was probably due to the haphazardly planning and the fact that as working adults, its pretty hard to find a common slot that everyone is free..

Well, I hope our next outing will be a good one!

Ammonite and ring

Got this fossilized ammonite today as a birthday gift for myself..

I just like the rainbow play of colours on the shell... very nice!!!

Was give this ring carved out entirely of hematite, and iron oxide ore.

Some info I found off the net about hematite:
Hematite, known as the 'Happiness Stone', brings optimism; aids communication and speech; energy and vitality. Due to its strong connection with the blood, Hematite can regulate and restore the blood supply and can draw heat from the body. Hematite is also useful for easing leg cramps, anxiety and insomnia. Hematite should not be used on inflamed areas.

Looks like I really need it!

Was on the way back when I saw this cheesy ad on the bus from Tiger Beer, it read that 250 quality checks have been made on the beer, and you will be the 251st when you sip from it...

Now, does that mean that 250 people have already drunk that same bottle of beer? eeew...

Bad Service at Metro!!!

Was at Metro Causeway Point after dinner today..

Wanted to utilize my 20% birthday vouchers.

When i got to the shoes department, this whole group of sales people just clustered at the counter and refused to pay attention to me at all... Really wonder, what they are being paid for, this is the first time I really encountered bad service at Metro!

Another thing that pissed me off is the quick reaction of the lifts in Causeway Point, if an empty lift heading down arrives and someone elses comes in with you and presses the up button, the lift goes up!!!

Guess it just aint my day at Causeway Point!

Quarter a Century old...

Yes.. Quarter a century old...

I am 25 today!!!!

This year has been an eventful year for me. Thanks to one and all for supporting me.

Also special thanks to people like Sheryl, Cheryl, Kenneth, Adrian and Jasmine for remembering my birthday.

Though its my birthday, I still have to work..

Misquoted Again...

I just hate being misquoted by the media!!!!

Lianhe Zaobao quoted me as saying that there are few oriental high fibre foods today!!! Hello, you sure, I have seen high fibre noodles, high fibre beehoon....

It's supposed to be there are few high fibre meat products!!!

The news gives different names to the product launched.

Shin Min daily called it Xiang Gu instead of Hua Gu.

Straits Times even better... spelling mistake also did not discover..what ever happened to Shiitake, morphed into shitake?? Guess, they arent really using their spell check function for good eh?

Launch of new product!

The launch of a new SP product:

A lap cheong that has at least 25% reduced fat compared to conventional formulations.
High fibre content (at least 6%)

It's going to be available at selected Fairprice outlets in January 2008.

Would like to take the opportunity to thank my FYP team and lecturers in charge!

Don't cook at home??? Fret not, you may also wish to try the product in a wide variety of local delicacies at Yikowei! They have branches at Takashimaya, Centrepoint, OG Albert Complex, Bugis Junction, Tampines Mall and Bishan Junction 8!

Why do strange people like to talk to me???

Just dont understand why do strange people like to talk to me???

Was at a kopitiam in Clementi eating dinner, when this person sat down at my table uninvited!

What the heck, I thought to myself and continued to eat as I still had Biotechnology lab session later.

After a while, he asked me what he should do as he was a Malaysian and he wanted to quit his job, but his employer did not want to give his permit back to him. The best I could offer him was to go to MOM....

Why do strange people like to talk to me?

Nearly hit by a falling tree branch...

It's been raining the whole day today.

On my way back home from dinner today, stopped by a traffic light junction at Bukit Timah area and a whole tree branch came crashing down less then a metre where I had stopped my car from.

What a close shave!

This leads me to think are the trees planted by our road sides safe? If the tree falls onto a car, who is responsible for the damage?

Surely, Nparks cant be cutting down all similar trees of the same type after an isolated incident like what they did when the tree fell and killed someone earlier this year at Bukit Batok Nature park!

Chocolate cakes.... and salmonella

Prima Deli, a well known bakery, is in the limelight for having its chocolate cakes with salmonella.

106 people have so far reported getting food poisoning after eating the cakes.

Six had to be hospitalised but have since been discharged. They tested positive for Salmonella Enteritidis.

The onset of illness for the last case was on 26 November. The effects are felt usually six to 72 hours after eating contaminated food.

The MOH was first notified of a food poisoning incident on 23 November.

As more cases of food poisoning were reported, investigations showed that the common food item in the various incidents were Prima Deli chocolate cakes bought as early as 19 November.

MOH and AVA conducted joint inspections of Prima Food Pte Ltd which produces the chocolate cakes for all Prima Deli retail outlets.

Food and environmental samples were taken for laboratory analysis.

Preliminary results suggest Salmonella is the likely culprit.

In such an unfortunate incident like this, the media keeps blowing things outta proportion, I heard this same piece of new "chocolate cake laced with salmonella that causes massive food poisoning" so many times over the radio, that I can probably memorise it already.

In times like these, the media should remain neutral and not instil fear over chocolate cakes. Give those poor guys at Prima Deli a break!

Pamper myself

Sometimes... it just feels so good to pamper myself once in a while especially in times of all the hardwork and stress..
Today, I had a slice of ice cream cakes at Swensens before going to school to chase the Monday blues away.

Lecture today in school was kinda boring, but thankfully, for what I learnt during my General Elective Module in my full time days, I got to appreciate the science behind Genetically Modified Foods.

Homework seems to be piling up soon.. gotta start clearing before it gets over my head!

JAM creations...

My mum got addicted to some of JAM Creations..

So i popped by their new premises at Sunshine Plaza to get some stuff for her.

Had a quick dessert break with them at TCC which is conveniently just opposite their shop. I tried their upside down cheesecake... bad choice, in my opinion, still prefer the good old ti-rum-isu.

Going back from Sunshine Plaza always seem to be a problem!!! I always cant get a cab back home and its location makes it lazy for me to get to the train station as the train would have to make a big loop before reaching Clementi.

NS mob day....

Went to the opening of the largest fully automated Cold store in Singapore : Mandai Link Logistics in the morning!

Its really really huge...

Afternoon, got an open mobilisation and had to report back to Clementi camp.. its the first time since i got activated since I ORDed in 2004. Loads of unfamilliar faces.. some uncles here and there.... managed to find my friends back from SAFTI days.... one of my driver friends now working as a night shift delivery man...

I waited for some 3 hours before finally being allowed to go back.. what an utter waste of time!

Are all rich people stingy??

Had a busy day rushing from place to place today, until I suddenly remembered about something that someone had ordered from me.

So I had to rush all the way to get it, and when I passed it to the person, he did not even ask how much is it?

Looks like people are thinking that with their high up status, people , like me, would have to be at their beck and call.

Mr Koh, from AVA, came to class today to share his interesting perspectives with us, for once, it made this module come alive..... :p

TCC and Encounters with Taxi

I went down to Town today to meet a client at TCC NAFA campus.

Actually, thanks to Johnannes for passing me the discount card that entitles me for 15% discount at TCC. Surprisingly, the food served was pretty good, was told that it was a new menu, just recently planned. I had this beautifully roasted chicken with pasta served. The mild hints of olive oil complimented the dish very well!

Another thing that impressed me was the Ti-Rum-misu... utterly sinful... and also very creative in terms on visual display and design.

Ok, back to the point on my encounter with the taxi service in Singapore. Was fast approaching 10 oclock, so i decided to flag a cab back home. However, there was not a single available cab to be seen in sight, most had red 'on call' status.

Walked from Sunshine Plaza up to Selegie area.. then to Dhobby Ghaut and finally to Park Mall where I finally got through the taxi booking hotline and had to wait for some 7 minutes before my cab arrived!!!

Good or bad... I should have just called a cab at Sunshine Plaza instead... :(

Good water

Having just recovered from my illness today, I took the chance of being early to meet a client to browse the supermarket. Went to the mineral water section and saw this interesting brand of dew water that was being featured in the newspapers and various media recently.

Quite expensive for a 250ml, nearly $2.. but it claims that is is extremely pure and naturally rich in oxygen.

So having remembered what a friend once did for me when I was sick, buying a bottle of high end mineral water cos I deserved the best.... I decided to do the same for myself and bought it....

It tasted pretty nice and pure.. a quick check on the nutritional information panel revealed 0 nutrition: no calories, no mineral enrichment of any kind.

Actually, the process actually reminds me of distilled water or reversed osmosis water....

Then again, am i paying too much for something that seems over hyped? Arent all waters naturally oxygen rich to support life?

Nokia Queues

Why are the queues at Nokia Service Centre always so long???

Is it due to the fact that many people use Nokia handphones????

or its due to higher frequencies of defective phones from Nokia?

Functional Whine

Attended this talk on Functional Foods today at Republic Polytechnic..

Actually, I was pretty excited to attend this talk until I set thru it.. The talk started late.. ended late... and to make things worse, we sat thru the entire 'lecture' for more then 3 hours.. without a break... to think that the average attention span for most people would be about 30-45 mins.

Also, some of the topics covered were WAY far off functional foods... we had speakers doing their own dedicated hard sell of their spa packages... perhaps.. that was meant to be the commercial break for us to go to the toilet?

The much awaited food tasting sessions was at the end of the seminar... the foods on display were pretty good.. like the omega 3 oil enriched mango flavoured ice cream and stuff... There was even a cranberry brownie (don't ask me how functional it is... it seems to even make kueh lapis with dried prunes a functional food)

Finally, I really appreciate free parking in school now.. the car park fees at RP cost me $3... imagine driving and parking in school everyday!!!! argh!!!!

Rude driver

Nearly got into an accident today when I was getting out from a parallel parking lot..

I was already almost out..
when this stupid driver just sounded the horn and drove past me..

Confusing Practical...

Objective: To determine level of lead in ppb levels in fish samples

Results: Confusion and more confusion

Discussion: If you cant covince us.. please don't confuse us!

Pretty unlucky during the practical too.. the machine started to drip some unknown liquid.. and the whole practical was called off.. and we had to use the previous groups results...
What an uneventful day.. to think we spent quite some time to prepare our samples.. all these were in vain...

New lecturer for Biotech

Finally.. a new lecturer for Biotech....

Pretty interesting lecture today.. who talked about genetically modified food and animals... imagine... glow in the dark green mice...

If they can make humans with such glow in the dark functions... of course.. must include a vector switch so that we can switch on and off at our own will... no need for light sticks during army any more.. :p

Was at Chinatown today for dinner...

Came across this scene...

This China man... standing outside this steamboat restaurant with a large placard with the words written on it "name of restuarant" owes me salary.. pay up" ...

Loads of people were gathering around him.. tourists even snapping pictures of him.. doesnt he know how to complain to MOM???

Or does he enjoy making a nuisance of himself?

Bought my fave egg tarts, wife biscuits and chicken biscuits from Tong Heng.. been a long time since I savoured them... but sad to say.. seems that there is some drop in quality in the egg tarts and the wife biscuits!

Met up with JAM and went to their new premises at Sunshine Plaza.. it sure looks good with prospects there!

Oh... I went to Mr Bean the cafe at Selegie with them! It has been such a long long time since I went there in my JC days... the place still remains the same... like a frozen moment in history... though the menu has certainly changed.. and of course the prices! :p

A Tropical Christmas comes early..

Headed on down to Orchard Road today... to get some stuff with my parents....

Had dinner at this Food Street near Meridien Hotel... it's more an over hyped hawker centre that puts real true local food fare to shame..

Just look at this chicken chop and you will know why...

Anyway.. the theme for Christmas this year in Orchard Road seems to be blue fairy lights hanging down from trees and all.. just walking along the road fills me with all the festive cheer... I cant wait for Christmas to come!

Friday, November 16, 2007

Christmas is coming...

I remember a couple of years back.. there was this Coca Cola jingle that had "holidays are coming.. holidays are coming..."
When I saw this large Christmas tree at Causeway Point today during lunch, it brought some festive cheer to an otherwise routine and mundane day.

Really looking forward to making a Christmas wish list soon..

Anyway... it had been a long time since I had my fave Chicken Katsu Curry... looking at it in front of me just brought back memories...

Fast food restaurant replies.

The fast food restaurant I complained to actually replied to me today.
The outlet manager gave me a call today and informed me that she will look into the matter... and she knows who I am..

Judging from the persistent 'weird orders' I given her... like fries without salt... iced milo without ice... it makes me wonder if that's the reason why she remember me....

haha.. anyway, she said that she apologized and will look into the matter....

Does the ghost of the past comes back to haunt you when you are all alone in a familliar place?

I experienced it myself today....
The quiet corridors of Singapore Polytechnic.... setting sun.... somehow brought me into a time tunnel of the past.. Though not relatively far back in time, I still miss those days of the past...

Pissed with fast food outlet

Really pissed with this particular fastfood outlet today..... wrote this letter to the management today! Name has been changed to X in order to keep the identity of the company protected.

I would like to bring to your kind attention an incident that happened to me on 15th November 2007 1825 hrs at X Singapore Polytechnic outlet.

I was in queue at your outlet behind a customer looking at the menu, while your staff was serving the current customer. A bunch of people came after that and also got in line, the line was not really straight, and as a result, I was not really in line with the crowd that came later.

The manager, who was dressed in a blue shirt, came up to me, and asked me if I was waiting for something or queuing for my order to be taken. When I told her that I was queuing for my order to be taken, she did not even bother to ask if I was in the queue earlier and told me to join the back of the queue.

After reading your companys profile about making your customers happy, I really wonder if there is the culture at Macdonald’s where the staff do not bother to observe and pay attention to the crowd that they are serving. I really wonder why there is only 1 counter open to handle such a crowd. There should be proper crowd control measures taken to handle such a crowd.

This unhappy experience has certainly changed my impression of X’s and I would think twice before I patronize X again.

I donated like some 1590 grains of rice!

Seriously speaking.. its kinda addictive!

Soya Bean War

Was at Ghim Moh today..

and i noticed that there was a new soya bean drink and curd store opened right next to an existing one..

what competition....

the old store has its steady stream of regular clients..

The new store lacked the human traffic flow... but it had interesting things on its menu like soya curd tarts, soya pineapple tarts.... really wonder who will emerge as the winner..

China Phone call scammer...

Got this call today while I was at work...

'Private Number' flashed across my HP screen..

when i picked it up.. this familliar China Chinese accent.. saying something that I won something...

Pretending not to understand Chinese.. I queried her in an equally 'Angmoh' tone... and she immediately changed to this robotic sounding English tone... 'do you speak english"

Irritating China Scammers...
I just hung up after that..

What a crappy day.....

Had this new lecturer taking over for Advance Food Analysis..

And she just had to use this anaology on why basic techniques are still very important...

course if you input crap.. you get crap results.. the corny thing was that she drew a crab on the board... yawn... my toes are seriously laughing after such a long day..

spare me all the crab can? *pun intended*

Explosion right in my face...

I was changing a bulb earlier this morning for a high voltage oven.. and it nearly exploded with sparks coming out from the holder...

a close shave... judging from the fact that the bulb was eye level...

Also found out today that my juniors had their project selected for Spinnovex 2008...
wow.. looks like it's going to be busy.. it sure brings out nostalgia again...

Lift Kiasuism

I seriously wonder why are some people so kiasu to get into lifts!!!

Are they afraid that there's no space for them??

Was at Causwaypoint today for dinner.. and was taking the lift down to B3 carpark level. The lift stopped at level 1 and this whole bunch of people just came in. Thought that they were also going down.. but i was wrong, this bunch of people remained in the lift when I got off at B3.

This makes Singaporeans so ugly and ungracious.. depriving people who really need to go down to B3.... they should all go down to B18!

When Express has a different meaning...

Cameras installed in the KPE tunnel have captured 3,378 vehicles travelling above the speed limit of 70 kilometres per hour since it was opened a week ago.

Now, Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE) has barely been open for long.. and we are seeing fast returns...

A fine of $150 x 3400 in just 6 days... that would add up to 510 k.

Think uniquely Singapore.. welcome to Singapore's expressway!

Friday Night Chill Out

Went for an informal AFT class gathering today (Friday)...

First, had dinner with 2 of my classmates at 211 cafe! I really love the night ambience of the place. Ordered Fishermen Platter!!! The portion was pretty big... and the seafood was, most importantly, fresh!

We met the rest of the clique at Eski Bar!!! It was a literal chill out.. as the drinks were served in nearly an Artic setup! But the nice drinks they had really warmed one up... This Greygoose orange vodka with sprite was simply refreshing with its subtle citrus notes!

We chatted at Eski Bar till 11+ before heading to NYDC for deserts! Yea.. imagine eating a mudpie at like near mid night... the ultimate sin!!!!

Looks like my AFT classmates are pretty happening!!!! Cant wait for more gatherings!

I gotta admit something today!!!!

I really don't know what we were doing today during practical today in the anaylsis lab..

It suddenly seemed so alien to me... LC-MS... cheemonology is u ask me...

perhaps.. maybe the unofficial topic of the day was... where to go for class outing on Friday?

Oh, another of our classmate withdrew from the course today... its so sad that, even though we are already in the second semster... there are still 'casualties' around..

Anyway... the practical ended so late... by the time i reached home.. already 10.15pm... another tiring day at school....

Funny Hindi Song with English Lyrics...

Watch it for yourself!

The Power of Media

Read today's Straits Times whereby they mentioned that this ex RJC graduate who tried to hack into the school system to check out his school mates results might actually serve time in jail to cut 5000 bucks off his sentence.

That's the power of the media for you!

It's amazing how our media like to feature some stories, remember, the last time someone committed sucide by jumping onto the MRT tracks, donations started flowing in... so this time round, I wonder if its another publicity scam by that China scholar!!

Can you imagine a China scholar doing that?

Another powerful aspect of the media:
The price of flour rising... when I was at Maxwell Road market earlier today to buy some buns from Bread Pitt... the price of the bread had gone up.. from $2 for 3 pieces to $3 for 4 pieces! Though, it might seem neglible.. but I find it strange that the standard of living or rather prices of goods defy the law of gravity: What goes up... never comes down...

The nights come alive....

Chinatown... on a Sunday night...

Took a train to visit JAM to collect my stuff...
It's really nice.. their craftmanship is really good!!!

I took a picture of Chinatown from their shop... really like the nightlife shot of it.. it's quite relaxing when you just sit and look all the crowd passing by on a Sunday evening!!!

We headed down to Maxwell Road market to eat.. I tried this Curry Chicken noodle.. absolutely yummy!

What a sinful treat for a Sunday night!

Sheng Shiong... opens near me!

Sheng Shiong supermarket opened its 21st outlet near my place!!!

.. its rather small.. their entire shop front is located at Block 352 Clementi Ave 2. It occupies 3 units.. 2 joint and the other one stand alone.. I was disappointed by the lack of variety of goods on display..

Think it would have to work much harder to be able to be on par with the other big players in Clementi..

Food for thought this Friday

I chanced across this very meaningful series of pictures today... must say that it struck a chord deep within me...

Yes, animals are more deluded because of their capacity of their physical body, but occasionally some of them might be able show us the love that we have forgotten on our 'busy road'. Just like this story.

this is real touching…

"Hey, wake up! wake up!"

A dog was knocked down by a car and died on the middle of the road. Later, another dog is
seen beside the corpse of the dog, he tried to wake his friend up using his leg.

"Let's move to the safer side of the road...i will move you to the safer side!"

When his attempts to wake his friend failed, he tried to push his friend to the side of the
road. But the weight of his friend was proven too heavy for him.

"Anyone help, tell me what to do."

Though the traffic is busy and dangerous, he just will not go away from his friend. Just stand beside his friend howling and crying.

A lot of people saw this incident and feel very touched. Even a dog can show his loyalty and love to his friend.

Should there be a limit to how much you should do to help your friend? To an extent when your friend does not even know how far the distance you have gone for him? Loyalty? Friendship? Is it supposed to be mutual.. or a mere one way traffic?

Evil fireopal

Took this little quiz online.. and discovered that I am so evil..

scary thoughts eh??? Why don't you try it too?

How evil are you?

Anyway... had the ISO 9000 open book test today... seems pretty easy... hopefully I can score on it and did not choose the wrong clause....

Good bye ISO 9000 Clauses... :P

So rude... so dangerous.... SBS bus drivers.... a reason to die...

Proud to be Singapore????

Singapore Airlines - A great way to fly.....
Singapore Bus Service - A great way to die????

I was walking to Clementi Central from home in the evening.

And when i was at a traffic light near the interchange, I noticed that this SBS bus driver had stopped his bus in the middle of the road and was arguing with a van driver, exchanging a myriad of hand gestures to each other. Utterly rude, I must say that Singaporean drivers are extremely discourtoues.

To make things worse, when I was crossing the zebra crossing.. that bus driver failed to stop at the zebra crossing to give way to pedestrians!!!!

He nearly knocked me... thank god i noted his license number SBS Bus Service 7, Registration plate SBS 641B. Time occured at 1942 hrs today!!!

I think I am going to lodge a complaint for such an errant bus driver!!!

Just BEAD it...

I always thought little about being boring.. monotonous...

Till I met John and Mike, owner of JAM Creations . They have used their imagination and breathed in lots of live into new and creative designs.

They wire wrapped this nummite stone for me into something interesting : a pendant... guess the style brought out the beauty of the stone.. with its natural gold tones.

Do check out their main official site: BEAD WORKSHOP

Special thanks to Mike for completing it in such a short time.. all done within a day!

Running around town...

Had a busy day...

Zipped off to town in the afternoon to meet a client and to discuss the various sensory attributes and applications of my products.

Must say that it was quite a successful trip.

Hurried back to Woodlands later... and then back to school in the evening.. another day spent zipping from place to place!

Someone posted this youtube video on Arofanatics today...

The story line is very simple... but yet at the same time... it tells a story, which is often true that we take our loved ones around us for granted and only regret when its too late.

Even though, its suppposed to be advertisement for some Thai insurance company, but I still find it touching...

Kakis Gathering!

I met up with my bunch of kakis today to go for a walk and for dinner!!!

We met at Chinatown area and browsed through some mineral shops. We had some nice Hongkong deserts at a shop house along Chinatown area.. must say that the Herbal Jelly is really good and soothing!!

Andrew brought me to this shop where I bought something interesting:

Next, I visited their friends shop which specialised in selling beads.. I always thought that beads were boring and passe... but the visit to their friends shop really proved me wrong when I saw the huge variety of stuff they had there!

We had dinner at a Teochew Porridge store at Redhill area.. admist the noisy backdrop of the coffeeshop, there were sudden outbrusts of laughter from our table.. Really.. it was really hilarious sitting down talking to them.... so much that we headed down to Coffee Bean and chatted to the wee hours of the morning!!!! Tired... but fun.. thanks guys!

Dealing with pests....

I had a really pest infested day today!!!!!

Was out having lunch at a nearby coffeeshop near my workplace and while I stood waiting upon ordering my mee hoon kuay, I saw flies dancing around the bowls that were placed on the store front! Some flies even landed into the open container of ikan bilis... how gross.. imagining having some added 'black beans' with your ikan bilis... simply turn off of the day!!!! Also, I realised that the side kitchen area of another store faces the entrance of a toilet!!!! argh... i wont be eating from these stores for some time!!

Going back home, I discovered that the Town Council was fumigating the rubbish chutes!!! Columns and columns of smoke rose... It was as though there was a forest fire nearby... and when I was going to school in the evening... there was a huge army of cockroaches... struggling.. some dead... some half alive.. some still crawling all over the floor... it was really a disgusting sight. I really cant understand why the Town Council does not arrange for a clean up session immediately after each fumigation.

All the dead roaches lying around only could bring about secondary hygiene problems.

Mid Week Wednesday..

It alarming how time flies when you are busy...

Weeks seem to past at such fast rates that before I can actually take a breather from a completed assignment, another one starts coming in!

I can already feel the year end festive mood coming in though... so I hope that will motivate me further to complete my work, especially my homework on time!

Anyway, just to share this light hearted cartoon with my readers here. Here's what you get when you cant pronounce your words well enough:

Albino Clown Loaches

Bought 3 little albino clown loaches today for my semi planted tank.

It's the first time I saw albino clown loaches... I find them quite interesting, actually they look almost like normal clown loaches. Their red pupils can only be seen on closer inspection and at certain angles.

a picture from my handphone of the loach. Not very sharp.. but its the best that shows off its red pupils.

Hope they grow big soon!

Monday Blues....

We had Food Bio Engineering Lab today...

Strange thing is that the micro organism that we were growing in the bio reactor took a super long time to grow. At the end of 100 over minutes, there was still little turbidity in the reactor, which indicated a low growth rate of the organisms...

If the micro organisms had Monday blues and were laggy in growth, what more could a Monday mean to us humans?

Turn offs.....

Turn off of the day #1:

Setting - At a factory selling cakes
Scenario: Tour buses parks outside factory, auntie rushes into the shop and tells the owner that she has 3 buses coming and she is the leader of the tour. Before owner can say anything, she goes on to list what cakes she wants... blah blah...

I was like hello auntie... can you wake up your idea.. a box of cakes costs only $3.50.. but I think your integrity and character is worth far lesser...

Turn off of the day #2:
Setting- At a retail outlet
Scenario: Unfamilliar number flashes on my handphone when it rings.. I picked the call up and was greeted by some unfamilliar voice! Caller claimed to be looking for dynamic, people with vision to start some online business... and the best thing, he was recommended by a classmate of mine from basic diploma!

Hello, my number is a private thing!! Can you not go around spreading it.. its not 1900-call-ivan! Next time, must charge them rates like $1.00 / min block!!!

Visit to butcher...

Remember the nursery rhyme that goes like this:

To market, to market, to buy a fat pig,
Home again, home again, dancing a jig;
To market, to market, to buy a fat hog;
Home again, home again, jiggety-jog;
To market, to market, to buy a plum bun,
Home again, home again, market is done.
Well, I was at a butcher's today... they are basically the people that slaughter and butcher pigs into parts to supply to markets and other industries...

Look at these pigs... even taller then I am!!!

I see strange people...

Just like in the 1999 film The Sixth Sense...

I have been seeing weird and strange people recently..

Don't ask me why... But earlier today at work.. this Thai Chinese (as he told me) approached me outside my work place.. and started to talk to me.. about how poor thing he is.. whether it is true.. i wont know.. but he certainly spoke with a lot of hand gestures... of which i was taking strong precaution against.. I was reading some articles that there were some swindler out there, that are able to hypnotise one with a lot of hand gestures...

At lunch, I saw this weird old lady with sat at the coffee shop... she was drinking water out from her own bottles (2 of it) and was looking pretty fidgety...

Today's lab session was horrible!!! Sample preparation took so long.. and the worse thing was that setting for the gas chromatography was kinda wrong and we had to reinject the samples of blended vegetables to check for pesticide!!! argh!!! utter waste of time!

It takes all sort of people...

... to make the world round!!

Was at the workshop on Introduction to New Product Development & Sensory Evaluation organized by the Singapore Institute of Food Science and Technology (SIFST) which was held at the Pines today!!

During the first tea we had, I and my click of friends placed our cups of hot beverages at this cosy little corner in the ballroom and headed to grab a bite. When we returned back , there was already this bunch of people that occupied our place and did not even acknowledge our presence when we went back!!! What b**ches! To think that they are from some famous company in Singapore, really places the company reputation in a bad position!!
See these people occupying our corner:

After lunch, we wanted to find somewhere to sit down and chill out and relax before the next session of the seminar began and we headed to Windows Deli to grab a bite... but we were turned down immediately because we were not members. Hello? It's not to say that it is very crowded during that time and moreover, we were supposed to be paid guests at the venue!!! I really wonder what kinda service The Pines offer!

From their website:

Step through our doors and be whisked into a world where the service is unlike any other. A club that embodies prestige, status and class, we believe in providing the very best for our members.

No wonder they put that on their site... no member.. no service.... CRAP!!!!
Smile Singapore.....

1 Dollar Wannabes!

These rupiah coins from Indonesia have been circulating around in Singapore..
Just got this email from my Primary school teacher..
I seriously wonder why these people mint the coins which is equivalent to about 16 Singapore cents.. the cost of the metal required to mint the coins would definitely cost more the real value of the coins!

In a daze...

Woke up this morning and realized that I had been asleep since last evening...

Guess I have been really been tired out by school and work recently.

Today was another day busy shuttling from place...

Was told that some people not happy with me for improving their work too...
dunno why.. but it never occured to me that i was working behind their backs...

Joreen introduced me this new fish soup store that had opened in SP FC 1...
she says its very nice and fresh...
but.. i find it laden with MSG leh....

Chicken or Fish?

Chicken or fish???

I cant really tell at my lunch at Long John's Silver...

The thick batter really makes it difficult for me to distinguish. Upon tasting the meal, I realised that the fish had a very fishy smell... so fishy until it was pretty unbearable..

Oh, and I realised that the bell that they used to have in their premises to encourage the customers to strike the bell for good food and good service was no longer present in their Causeway Point outlet...

What more can one say since the bell is missing... you naturally get food that is... (no comments)!

What a tiring day...

Such a tiring day for me today..
rushing to get stuff done..

designing boxes..

I seriously think that i work better with stress!

Lectures without fail...

The heavy rains and flashing lightings did not deter me from making my way to school... at times I really wonder how important such an advance diploma course is.

The lecturer today just went on an on.. we even had to rush a last minute assigment in 10 mins.... sigh...
It seems to be going nowhere... thankfully, i think this semster has been quite okay so far, thanks to Joreen and Siti for being so funny, without you babes, life in lectures will be pretty boring..

Hope that I will have the strength to complete this course!

Sensory today...

Did a little sensory evaluation today..

Must say that I am quite pleased with the results..
Thanks guys for working so hard... may the product be a success!!!

Went I got back home today..
I realised that my PC optical mouse is spoilt!!! Arggh... I had to go all the way to Clementi central to get a replacment. It's not that Clementi is very far from where I stay, but just that, the feeling off going out to get something after a long and tiring day is so dreadful.

I think I am getting too hooked onto the computer.. so much that once a malfunction occurs, I get pretty irritated!!!

Happy Mid Autumn!

Happy Mid Autumn Festival!!!

Had lessons on today as usual... Our Lecturer, Mr Lam, brought in mooncakes for us... to make up for the lessons going as usual..

Going back home, I saw many kids playing with their lanterns and sparklers at the playground.. the sight really warmed my tired soul...

Anyway.. I think this song is really approriate for the Mid Autumn Festival..

The Moon Represents My Heart 月亮代表我的心

Looking at the full moon, I hope that you will be looking at too...

Once again.. Happy Mid Autumn's Festival....

ooohh... go easy on the mooncake.. you won't want the moon to represent your figure and waistline... :p

School doesnt change...

After some 4 weeks of school holidays, school reopened today..

Headed to the SP Co-op shop under the library stair case to grab a quite bite, most of the items were sold out, but it did bring back wonderful memories of my days in basic diploma. Call it nostalgia or whatever you like, but whenever I am in SP alone, these memories come back to me and bring a smile to my face.

The first lesson of the whole semster had to be TSA's Food Bioengineering, which seems nearly similar to Food Biotechnology during the days of basic diploma, so glad that there was some revision going on, I returned all my knowledge to my lecturer already.

Of course, the most important part of the such TSA modules had to be the infamous 15 minutes break which will take nearly like 50 minutes!!!

I really hope that the class size will not shrink further.......

Sunday spent shifting...

When i woke up this morning, I was still in a daze...

Everything seemed to be a weird dream to me, if dreams hold truth to the future? What would such a dream mean? Two huge cats fighting.. I still shudder at it...

Sunday was spent shifting our family retail outlet from Hongkong Street to Victoria Street Wholesale Centre... pretty tired today...

I hope I will be able to sleep well with no bad dreams today!

Pesky delights...

Went to Newton Circus today..

the store holders there are still as pushy as ever!!!

One BBQ seafood store holder even persistedly left her menu on our table despite telling her that we are not keen in her seafood.

Ordered this Fried Oyster Omelette...

Havent eaten this for such a long time, especially after studying Food Microbiology... all the hep b and parasites.. whatever... but could not resist such a wonderful local delight..
Let's just keep food microbio away for the moment!

Mooncakes Madness

Got this box of mooncakes from Bengawan Solo..
Its a mixture of flavours..

Pandan with egg yolk, white lotus with egg york and mixed fruits and nuts.

Personally, I liked the mixed nuts a lot, its crunchy, chewy and slightly fruit with the dried fruits.

The tin packaging for Bengawan Solo looks nicer then last year too , more vibrant with the colours!

Anyway.. I was caught in a jam back home from a supplier's place!!! I cant imagine that the traffic condition in Jurong area is so bad!!! Thinking that I can avoid it by steering off AYE, I turned into Yuan Ching road... but was caught in another traffic condition there....

sigh... perfect scenario for the installation of new ERP gantries...

Wishlist for Xmas 2007...

something that i really want for X'mas this year..

The Sony Ericsson Blue tooth watch!

Designed by Fossil and Sony Ericsson.. It looks so cool...

The functions are even better!

Judging by this review I saw... it sure is definitely on my wish list!

Sony Ericsson, in tandem with Fossil Inc has launched a new series of Bluetooth watches that will perform the dual functions of being a normal watch and a caller ID.

Bill Geiser, Fossil's vice president says that this watch, named Bluetooth Watch MBW-100, will save time as the users can now look who the caller is and then can decide whether to receive the call or not, without taking their phone out of their pocket or purse. The watch uses the Bluetooth wireless technology to display the caller ID from phones made by Sony Ericsson on the watch face. The watch will be able to make a vibrating alert for incoming calls and provides the users with an option to send the caller to voicemail.

Fossil says that the users will not be able to answer a call with the watch but added that it can be done using Bluetooth headsets. Fossil has been under previously attempted two forays into the hi-tech watches department. One such venture was "Wrist Net" watches, which received news headlines through MSN Direct subscription service. Another was a watch adding PDA functions, which was pulled from the market.
The only thing I gotta ponder on is to whether it is able to function with my HP PDA...

My stylus broke in my PDA phone today....

It reminded me of an incident that took place last year, time really flies, but I have not forgotten what you did for me.. Really appreciated a lot!

Thankfully, I managed to piece back the stylus...

Headed back to Singapore Polytechnic to attend this talk on talk on International Trends in Natural Food Ingredients.

Learnt quite a fair bit about ingredients, primarily sugar, cocoa and milk...

The buffet dinner at Food Haven after the talk was outrageous... I would say, it was nearly a gossip session!!!!

Was eating this passionfruit earlier..

Why do they call this fruit passion fruit????

Is it due to the fact that it best describes what passion is all about??
Sweet but sour?
If so, how apt the naming.
