GST preview?

Why GST preview???

Prices are rising even though the GST hike, which is scheduled to hit 7% in July, has not taken place!

was dining with my family at Botak Jones today evening at their brance in Clementi. When I ordered the Fish and Chips, the price has really increased. It used to cost $5.50 for a regular plate last time and now, the price has rose to $6.

The serving size looks smaller too, to me, i feel that the standard has dropped a lot!!!! The fish was served pretty cold, probably pre fried, and there was a slight offensive fishy smell to the fish fillet.

I read this on their chalkboard which amused me:

"If you don't look good, we don't look good" - Vidal Sasson
"If you don't look good, we don't really care" - Botak Jones

Does that mean that if you dont look good after having a meal at their place, they don't care?? I leave that to you my reader, as the thought of the day, to ponder upon.

Save the fishes!!! SOS!!!

Someone forwarded me this site when i was at work today...

Quite interesting.. its a petition to stop fish cruelty in Singapore aquatic shops!!!!

http://www.petitiononline.com/sgfish/petition.html

Perhaps, its true that certain shops really treat their livestocks as mere commodities?

Where is the Vit C???

Shocking news today from Australia..

whereby GSK, the manufacturer of Ribena has been found guilty after 2 school girls find that the Vitamin C levels in their drink is not as high as what they claimed!!

Quote news.com.au :
GLOBAL drugs giant GlaxoSmithKline faces a court case today for misleading advertising after two 14-year-olds from New Zealand found its popular blackcurrant drink Ribena contained almost no vitamin C.

High school students Anna Devathasan and Jenny Suo tested the children's drink against advertising claims that "the blackcurrants in Ribena have four times the vitamin C of oranges" in 2004.

Instead, the two found the syrup-based drink contained almost no trace of vitamin C, and one commercial orange juice brand contained almost four times more than Ribena.

"We thought we were doing it wrong, we thought we must have made a mistake," Devathasan, now aged 17, told New Zealand newspapers of the school experiment.

A GSK spokeswoman in New Zealand refused to comment ahead of the case on the grounds that it could affect the legal process.

A GSK spokeswoman in Britain, which is the lead market for Ribena, said the company had been in discussion with the New Zealand Commerce Commission regarding Vitamin C levels and the way these levels had been communicated in New Zealand.

"GSK has conducted thorough laboratory testing of Vitamin C levels in Ribena in all other markets," the spokeswoman said.

"This testing has confirmed that Ribena drinks in all other markets, including the UK, contain the stated levels of Vitamin C, as described on product labels."

Ribena, first made in the 1930s and distributed to British children during World War II, is now sold in 22 countries.

GSK paid little attention to the claims of Devathasan and Suo until their complaints reached the commerce commission.

But it now faces 15 charges related to misleading advertising in an Auckland court, risking potential fines of up to $NZ3 million ($2.65 million).

Kudos to the kids.... budding food techs man!!!!
Anyway.. its really time that more stringent testing is done on foods that make nutrition claims to prevent such fradulent labellings!!

STOMP STOMP STOMP - on high alert!!!

I am getting really pissed off recently, especially by how the case of my auto feeder was handled!!!

Really feel like writing in to CASE and STOMP to get the issue addressed!!!

Such suppliers and dealers without any sense of intergrity should be boycotted by our community!

my other hobby, besides keeping fishes, is collection minerals and rocks... erm.. sad to say, i have not met much hobbyists in this field of mine!!

however, the meeting with my like minded friends today was great!!! Endless banter.. serious discussions.. as well as viewing of collections!!!

Went home with a nice piece of nummite, its pretty hard to find such minerals, especially since they come from a locality in Greenland!

Atomic Kitties

A music video of my main catfish community tank... Enjoy!

The Autofeeder saga!!!

Wrote an email to the supplier of the faulty auto feeder yesterday... and still no reply..
gave a call up to the supplier and was told that the person I sent to is in China!!!! Can you imagine in, so coincidence!!! He told me yesterday that he will look into the issue.. but up till now, no reply!!! WTH!

Read my letter to them:

I would like to highlight an unhappy incident that happened to me when i purchased your ABC (id kept anonoymous) brand autofeeder from XYZ Shop (id kept anonoymous )at somwhere in SG (id kept anonoymous )

I purchased the item
on Friday, 16th March 2007 from the above mentioned shop. When I returned home, upon setting up the equipment and filling with food, I realised the next day
that the clock timer dial on the front of the machine was not functioning at all
as it has the dial remained stationary even after a few hours had past.

When I returned to the shop on 19th March 2007 to try to get a replacement from the shop owner, she told me that the set was used for too long a time, saying that there were marks on the base of the equipment and she simply refused to do a replacement for me. This is impossible, as i has only bought the autofeeder on 16th and the condition of it could not have drastically changed in a mere 3 days, unless the product is really of an inferior quality.

I am extremely disappointed by the services offered by your retailers. They do not
even understand the meaning of service, despite the governments emphasis on
Going the Extra Mile.

Firstly, she did not even bother to get me to leave the auto feeder behind, so that she can let the suppliers, that is you all at ABC, have a closer inspection.

Secondly, her mere nonchalant expression and attitude just speaks of her willingness to even help people.

To me, it is not the mere 15 dollars that matter over the autofeeder, I
can jolly well, buy from the other shops down the row of HDB flat, it is the
principles that a business has to honour. And this just shows the intergrity of
the shop owner.

I sincerely hope that you can look into this matter as soon as possible. Awaiting your response.

Regards

Contemplation....

Got this email from Noel today about their newly setup portal for birthday gifts.. kinda reminded me that my 'friend's' birthday is fast approaching..

I am still thinking of whether to get my so called 'friend' a birthday gift..

note... the word friend is in inverted commas due to the fact that I am still wondering if they can be considered as friends... as what i posted sometime earlier last week..

If i get something.. i am not sure if that person will take it for granted..
if dun get, will that person be angry..

but anyway, my 'friend' has not contacted me for a long time, perhaps.. no longer friends already????

Second Interview for the month

Its been 2 months since Twinz Sausage D'lite was launched.. and yet the interviews and video shoots keep coming in...

I just did a second interview for Straits Times.. cos they are going to feature something on SP food products that have been succesfully launched... they told me that its going to be published this Friday.. so look out for it, ya?

Pissed!

I am so pissed today!!!

I bought an aquarium auto feeder for my fishes on Friday..

When home, the timer is not working!! It does not move at all.. requires to push the manual button then can move!!!

So pissed.. went down to the shop today.. with the receipt to get an exchange. The shop keeper say no.. citing reasons that the feeder looked used and rubbish.. while in a nonchalant look... without even trying to ask me to leave the feeder there while asking the supplier to take a look..

What kinda service is this..

Going to write to the supplier straight... and if nothing works.. going to send an email to STOMP and CASE!!!

Dilemma

Still at the crossroads: to go to graduation ceremony or not to go..

kinda feeling lazy leh..

who's going? Even if i go, guess i will feel pretty left out in one corner of the whole ceremony..
but if i don't go, I will be feeling a little bad... due to all the interviewing and filming for the graduation video...
Sigh... to go... or not to go?

Anyway..
today got this interesting so called fresh ginseng from someone...

I lie awake at night.... see things in black and white...

Was browsing thru the chit chat forum at arofanatics...

came across this thread...

"Friends, what are they to you"

Someone was discussing about "hi-and-bye" friends.. some lamenting about how their friends made use of them.. others sharing other incidents about their "pig and dog" friends...

It made me ponder about my own friends... how many true friends do i really have?

are truely close to you.

Having just graduated from my diploma course, I encountered a fair share of just "friends". When they need your help, they will flock to you, once you are no longer of use to them, they say bye bye to you.

it's the same old shiet everytime..

After graduation, none of my so called 'friends' have even bothered to take the iniative to sms me, contact me on msn...

when i messaged one, the person even replied say i waste their sms money..

sigh...
this kinda friends...

Advanced Diploma... Successful!

Got a letter and an enrolment package today.. informing me that my application for the advanced diploma has been successfully approved..

phew...

thankfully..

Shocking!!!!

Still trying to recover from shock today..

when i read about the lizard in pork floss packaging on STOMP!

Quite scary, especially since this is just after the Lunar New Year period, when i have just ate pretty a lot of pork floss..

Another thing to ponder upon, is how did the lizard end up there?

An accidental inclusion?
or an elaborately planned sabotage???

it really makes me, now as a fully fledged food technologist, to think about such issues!

Relieve from Comfort Food

Had Bak Kut Teh (literally meat bones tea when translated from dialect) for breakfast today.

Bak Kut Teh evokes memories of my childhood pretty well.. cos its pretty much a meal that I used to have pretty frequently during my younger primary school days...

Also, it is one of the foods that i ate nearly everyday when i had chicken pox outbreak in primary 6.

The aroma and taste of this bak kut teh from a Jurong East store has not really changed much... but the feelings on eating it certainly has...

Anyway... went to Changi airport with my family in the evening for dinner!

I love going to Changi airport.. it kinda reminds me of freedom...

Sad day...

It's been a sad day for me today..

my golden nugget pleco which i kept since last year in my catfish community tank passed away today...

haiz..

was still thinking of getting it new food...

pretty worried for the other fishes in my tank..
perhaps.. this is one of the drawbacks in fish keeping..when one of your fishes pass on.. you get so affected.. and feel like giving up...

had my fave chicken katsu curry rice to cheer myself up a lil...

Jus finished shooting...

.... shooting my schools graduation video..

dont know why they shortlisted to feature me to say a few (more like damn a lot) of words for the video..

so many NG scenes... i stumbled on my words as i tried to memorize them the last minute...

totally salah!!!

Actually, preparing for such videos is way more difficult compared to answering impromptu for the media interviews!

Results arrived..

The arrival of the results today..

thought i aint very glad as i dont really have fantastic results.

I am glad i passed and graduated successfully..

It's over!!!

Ya..

It's over!

Just like the lyrics from ' If You Could Read My Mind ' by Gordon Lightfoot

I never thought I could feel this way
And I've got to say that I just don't get it.
I don't know where we went wrong,
But the feeling's gone
And I just can't get it back.

Happy Founder's Day ACSians!!!

To all ACSians reading my blog,

Happy Founder's Day!!!

Really can hear the school anthem today in my mind...

"in days of yore.. from western shores.."
