Mixed feelings...

I'm back in Malaysia to attend my cousin, Joanne's wedding ceremonial dinner!

This shot I have here was taken at night right smack in the middle of the road in the kampung...

The calmness of the road contrasted with the messy array of thoughts fast zipping past in my mind..
As in every Chinese wedding get together, relatives will often ask you when you will be getting married and stuff... but this time.. they went to the extent of match making, which is so passe...

I have lost faith in all sorts of relationships.. be it friendship, relationships... and what so ever... Remember the cactus story i once posted on my blog....
Cant I just love myself??? i dont want to end up in a heng-suay kinda thing....

Evolution...

All things around undergo evolution..

It's a cycle that no one can escape from..

Mankind has evolved from apes to our present phase....

Food, too, can evolve...

Recent fashion trends have made things slimmer, more compact, examples would be like handphones, MP3 players... but it seems that even food serving portions is fast catching up the bandwagon.

Today, i was at Botak Jones and ordered a plate of fish and chips.. the serving of the fish was so pathetic that they should have called it 'chips and fish' instead.

Let's look at some pics that I took the last time when I tried Fish and Chips at Botak Jones:

The first pic was taken on 28 March 2007. Note the size of the fish fillet!

Let's compare with the serving portion I had today, just notice the disparity in size of the fish!

Lamenting about Slow 52

Bus Services in Singapore are getting more unpredicatable..

Today, I made an appointment with Andrew, founder of Tuakaypoh.com to arrange certain matters about his website publicity at IMM...

I left home to take a bus, waited for more then 30 mintues before Bus Service 52 came.. got caught in traffic jam along Commonwealth Ave West for 10 mins. Took me nearly 40 mins to get to IMM from my house... which is less then 10 mins drive...

The journey home was not much better, waited for some 30 mins before bus service 52 came!!!

I really wonder, why are our bus services getting from bad to worse... while we want to cut down on the number of cars on the roads, why does the frequency of bus service declines..... It simply does not aid in cutting down traffic at all..

Is lowering the frequency of buses servicing lesser economically viable routes fair for consumers?

715

Nope!!

This post is not about Qi Yi Wu, one of the stars from our local cinema production, 881 which features the getai as a prominent setting of the film.

Today's post 715 represents the 15th Day of the 7th Lunar Month. As you all should know by know, the 7th Month is the time when souls are let out to roam earth and enjoy in the festivities.. sorta like their kind of Chinese New Year period.

I remember on the 15th day of the 7th month in 2003, when i was still in the army, I was assigned to a last minute detail to ferry cadets to live firing area and the Lim Chu Kang cemetary area. The moon was so round.. and errie... and best of all.. there was this instructor that lit a candle at a spot.

His move puzzled me as he was not a Chinese, but still lit a candle , which seemed to be of Chinese customary beliefs. Then, I found out that someone was killed by checking clear his weapon at that very spot, years back... freaked me out, I stayed in my vehicle the whole night!!!

Spotlight on Bad Service

I was at Spotlight in the evening today.. getting some denim material for my mum.. who is doing some crafts I think...

When I approached the lady at the counter to ask her where to get the material off the racks..
Without even asking, she told me sold out already and that I could try to see if they have it at the denim area.

When i got there, there was still a huge roll of material.. lugging the whole roll to the same lady, she proceeded to serve a caucasian lady first.. despite the fact that I was there first!!!!

What bad attitude! It's really irritating especially when a fellow Singaporeans practises racial discrimination when serving clients!

Later in the day, when to Central with Adrian... to this Japanese Restaurant, Sun with Moon. This particular outlet had a more modern layout compared to its other outlets.

I tried their crab rice with mullet roe... delicious....

Anyway.. the Japanese word for crab sounds so weirdly obscene... kani....

Here's a parting shot..

Please Don't Say You're Sorry...

I thought about it for a long time, before I took the courage to make a decision.

All this while, I been feeling that you don't really give a damn....

Sorry by Madonna
Je suis désolée [French]
Lo siento [Spanish]
Ik ben droevig [Dutch]
Sono spiacente [Italian]
Perdóname [Spanish]

I've heard it all before (14x)

I don't wanna hear, I don't wanna know
Please don't say you're sorry
I've heard it all before
And I can take care of myself
I don't wanna hear, I don't wanna know
Please don't say 'forgive me'
I've seen it all before
And I can't take it anymore

You're not half the man you think you are
Save your words because you've gone too far
I listened to your lies and all your stories (listen to your stories)
You're not half the man you'd like to be

I don't wanna hear, I don't wanna know
Please don't say you're sorry
I've heard it all before
And I can take care of myself
I don't wanna hear, I don't wanna know
Please don't say 'forgive me'
I've seen it all before
And I can't take it anymore

Don't explain yourself cause talk is cheap
There's more important things than hearing you speak
You stayed because I made it so convenient (made it so convenient)
Don't explain yourself, you'll never see

Gomen nasai [Japanese]
Mujhe maph kardo [Hindi]
Przepraszam [Polish]
Slicha [Hebrew]
Forgive me [English]
(Sorry, sorry, sorry,...)

I've heard it all before (sorry, sorry, sorry,...)
(repeat)

I don't wanna hear, I don't wanna know
Please don't say you're sorry
I've heard it all before
And I can take care of myself
I don't wanna hear, I don't wanna know
Please don't say 'forgive me'
I've seen it all before
And I can't take it anymore

I don't wanna hear, I don't wanna know
Please don't say you're sorry
(Don't explain yourself cause talk is cheap)
I've heard it all before
And I can take care of myself
(There's more important things than hearing you speak)
I don't wanna hear, I don't wanna know
Please don't say 'forgive me'

I've heard it all before

ERP-mania

Gosh.. the government is setting up new ERP gantries..

I think i'm going to be pretty affected...

From LTA Press release :

South-bound Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE): New Gantry for Morning ERP Charging

12. Average traffic speeds on the BKE have deteriorated below the optimal speed range on weekdays. A new ERP gantry will be erected after the Dairy Farm exit, before the BKE joins the PIE, to help manage the traffic congestion there. The operating hours for this gantry will be from 7.30am to 9am during weekdays.

Installation of Other Gantries Which Will Not Be Activated Until Speeds Fall Below Optimal Speed Range

South-bound Upper Bukit Timah Road: New Gantry

13. With the introduction of a new gantry at the south-bound BKE, traffic at Upper Bukit Timah Road may deteriorate as traffic decants from the BKE. Hence, an ERP gantry will be erected along the south-bound Upper Bukit Timah Road after Hume Avenue to allow us to address congestion in a timely manner if it were to build up. This gantry will only be activated when congestion builds up and traffic conditions warrant the implementation of ERP.

14. LTA will give prior notice before levying any ERP charge at this gantry.

What's with all this ERP gantries..
aren't we just rediverting traffic to other roads.. and then setting up new gantries at these new hot spots???
Isn't it contradicting that we are having more ERP gantries.. but then our public transport fares are still increasing? Shouldn't the fares be maintained or even subsidised to encourage more people to use public transport?

My first paper and the serene beauty of SP

i had my first paper, Applied Food Microbiology today... it wasnt really that difficult... At least, I would say, can pass!! Haha..

Anyway, I took some pictures of Singapore Polytechnic with my handphone...

Serene beauty, undisturbed by the normal hustle and bustle that fills it in the day. Just peaceful and calmness.. nothing else!

A sense of familarity overcame me... it was like so close.. yet so far.. yes, it just did feel like I just entered SP and really dreaded going to school.

But now, standing at the same spot, looking back in time, with all this quietness surrounding me, a sense of nostalgia overcame me... How i wish time stood still back then, when everything was happy....

Secret Fish Squatters

Secret fish farm squatter
Tan Dawn Wei
802 words
19 August 2007
Straits Times
English
(c) 2007 Singapore Press Holdings Limited

Hidden from view in the woods near Sunset Way is an illegal fish farm; residents worry about dengue but owner says he has nowhere else to go

FOR the past 10 years, Sunset Way residents have turned a blind eye to what MrChua Swee Seng gets up to when he pedals deep into the woods on his rusty bicycle every day.

That was, until the recent dengue outbreak got them worried.

Officers from the Holland-Bukit Panjang Town Council received at least four calls from residents recently. When they trudged 150m into the muddy backwoods to follow up, they were surprised to discover a fish farm hidden from public view.

It might be easy to throw the 61-year-old MrChua and his fish tanks off the state land. Except that the plot is leased to Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM), which operates the Malaysian railway line.

Mr Chua, who has operated a shop in Sunset Way selling ornamental fish for 22 years and lives in a nearby flat, is upset.

He said he has 'no choice' but to squat there.

He has already moved seven times - from farms in Lim Chu Kang and Sungei Tengah - as he claims to have been sabotaged by jealous competitors.

So when he received an eviction notice from a managing agent for the land owner, JTC Corporation, he headed straight for his ward's Member of Parliament, MrChristopher de Souza, who wrote an appeal letter on his behalf.

Now, JTC and its managing agent, SMM, are in a bit of a fix.

'If the land was under JTC, we would chase them away. In this case, because it is KTM land, there is a limit to what we can do,' said MrPeter Chua, SMM's assistant property manager.

JTC would only say it is reviewing Mrde Souza's appeal letter, and that 'it is inappropriate... to comment at this point in time'.

Mr de Souza, too, cited confidentiality of his constituents' cases and declined to comment on why he chose to help MrChua because 'this is a personal matter to them'.

KTM was unable to respond by press time.

Mr Chua is prepared for the worst. But he cannot think where he might relocate his fish farm to.

After all, he has had no luck bidding for land in Lim Chu Kang.

When The Sunday Times visited the farm last week, he was sitting on a stool under a tree, scooping guppies from a styrofoam box.

'Are you Government?' he asked in Hokkien, with an embarrassed smile.

Yet the authorities have left him and his rough-and-ready farm alone for the past 10 years. 'They don't bother with me,' he said, shrugging.

The Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority confirmed that Mr Chua has a valid pet shop licence to sell his fish.

While he did not want pictures taken of the farm, he allowed a peek behind one of two crudely constructed padlocked enclosures made of strung-together fences and old doors.

Inside, more than 10 tanks were crammed together in a maze, with water pipes running from the monsoon drain.

Under canopies held up by tree branches were thousands of guppies, swimming in at least three industrial-size plastic tanks.

All this, wedged into an area roughly half the size of a basketball court.

Though small, the farm is precious to him.

Since thieves made off with his flower horn or luohan fish a few years ago - at the time, each sold for between $300 and $1,000 - he now secures the enclosure with a strong padlock and chain.

One resident, Madam Zhu Demei, 32, who moved into the estate two years ago, stumbled on it while trekking in the woods.

'There were trenches with water plants and sandbags in the monsoon drain which blocked the flow, creating a lot of stagnant water,' said the housewife, who promptly sent pictures to the National Environment Agency (NEA).

But Mr Chua insisted, slapping his lean, bare chest, that there are no mosquitoes: 'Have you been bitten yet? I don't get bitten.'

NEA, in fact, said its officers had checked the farm seven times since June, but found no mosquitoes breeding.

Mr Chua hopes JTC and KTM will let him stay. If forced to move though, he said he will pack up and go because he knows he has no right to be there.

'But I mind my own business and I don't harm anybody. Why can't they let me be?' he said.

Limit to action

'If the land was under JTC, we would chase them away. In this case, because it is KTM land, there is a limit to what we can do.'

- MRPETER CHUA, SMM's assistant property manager

Pretty amazing... How i can be living in that area.. and not know much about it!!!

Meaningful words in times of solace!

Because everything changes from moment to moment,
we can only treasure
everything in this moment.
Because everything changes from moment to moment,
we should not be attached to anything in this moment.

The work
of acknowledging everything in mindfulness leads us to a deeper view of what
life is. It is very important to understand that impermanence is not a negative
aspect of life. Impermanence is is the very basis of life. If what exists were
not impermanent, no life could continue. If a grain of corn were not
impermanent, it could not become a corn plant. If a tiny child were not
impermanent, she could not grow into an adult.

Life is impermanent, but
that does not mean it it not worth living. It is precisely because of its
impermanece that we value life so dearly. Therefore we must know how to live
each moment deeply and use it in a responsible way. If we are able to live the
present moment completely, we will not feel regret later. We will know how to
care for those who are close to us and know how to bring them happiness. When we
accept that all things are impermanent, we will not be incapacitated by
suffering when things decay and die. We can remain peaceful and content in the
face of change, prosperity and decline, success and failure.

The falling rain today brought sadness to me.

HERE'S TO THE NIGHT
By: Eve 6

So denied
So I lied
Are you the now or never kind
In a day
In a day, love
I'm gonna be gone for good again
Are you willing
To be had
Are you cool with just tonight?
Here's a toast to all those who hear me all too well

Chorus:
Here's to the night's we felt alive
Here's to the tears you knew you'd cry
Here's to goodbye tomorrow's gonna come too soon

Put your name
On the line
Along with place and time
Wanna stay
Not to go
I wanna ditch the logical
Here's a toast to all those who hear me all to well

Repeat Chorus

All my time is frozen motion
Can't I stay an hour or two or more
Don't let me let you go
(Don't let me let you go)
Here's a toast to all those who hear me all too well

Lover's Tears...

Found this song on Youtube..

I have really no idea.. why it seems to be so hauntingly touching...

Why do i cry for thee,
Why do i shed my precious tears for thee,
Dont you know it's because of love,
It's because of love.....

Here's looking at you kid,
You must remember this,
a kiss is just a kiss,
a sigh is just a sigh,
the fundamental things apply,
as time goes by.... the glory of love.

A sophisticated love song from the master song writer Yao Mien 姚敏. dedicated to all the lovers in the world.

Run to me....

Run to Me by Oscar De La Hoya

If ever you got rain in your heart,
someone has hurt you, and torn you apart,
am I unwise to open up your eyes to love me?

And let it be like they said it would be -
me loving you girl, and you loving me.
Am I unwise to open up your eyes to love me?

Run to me whenever you're lonely. (to love me)
Run to me if you need a shoulder
Now and then, you need someone older,
so darling, you run to me.

And when you're out in the cold,
no one beside you, and no one to hold,
am I unwise to open up your eyes to love me?

And when you've got nothing to lose,
nothing to pay for, nothing to choose,
am I unwise to open up your eyes to love me

Run to me whenever you're lonely. (to love me)
Run to me if you need a shoulder
Now and then you need someone older,
so darling, you run to me.

Yea... run to me whenever your're lonely....

Then who do i run too when i am lonely?

The Furthest Distance...

Got this in my mail box today... very meaningful...

The Furthest Distance

Appreciate the many times
You would fetch me from school to home
And the many times we would talk and share life's experiences
My travelling and wondering around the world
The beautiful Angkor Wat in Cambodia
The lovely people in Taiwan
The history you love
But could never go
Because of the sacrifices
I travel for you
And live the life you would never experience

But I am sorry
For we are so close
Yet we cannot bridge the furthest distance
No words can
Neither actions
Can fill this gaping hole
I long to close

Appreciate the extent you go for me
And I really ache
This heart wrenching ache
When I see you dozing off in front of the television
Your only window out of the seemingly boring,
working, cooking, praying, ironing, mopping and fulfilling your duties
As a mother, a wife, a woman
This thing
Your life

I long to close this distance
So far
So very tiring far
By eating, dirtying, giving one word answer,
But
I long to share my life
But
How can I
When
Our lives are so vast vast apart

How can people
Who live under one roof
Be so far apart

The furthest distance
Baffles me

Appreciate
The encouragements and kind words
You have for me

The times I spent with all of you
The fun that we had

This celebration of the kindred spirit
Yet so far
I cannot close the gap

For my attempts
May only widen what gaps there already exist

Do your sincerity and friendship
Extend to our differences
Differences that we refuse to see
Or acknowledge
Else we may tear apart our comfort blanket

How can people
Who live through lives
And share tears and laughters
Be so far apart

The furthest distance
Baffles me

If time is a medicine
Then why does my heart still suffer
A little thump
A little ache
Whenever I think of you

If time is a measurement of distance
Of the heart
Then why do I feel
This furthest distance

Is so easy to close
But oh so difficult

If tomorrow never comes
Will we be able to close this furthest distance?

I long to
But I really don't know how

This furthest distance
Baffles me

It's really so meaningful and apt to fit my feelings now...
argh... gotta study.. having TSA test later!!!

Foolish Games....

Time and time again... we get caught in foolish games...

I get hurt... but who do i tell...

I put on a smile and be strong... but deep down inside... I just dont wanna add to your worries and burden.

Chorus:
Well in case you failed to notice,
In case you failed to see,
This is my heart bleeding before you,
This is me down on my knees, and...

When you told me that you blocked me on msn, i was really hurt... what have i done?

Another Jump!!!

I really dont know whats going on in today's society..

I was out to meet some friends today... when there was this huge disruption notice that was flashed at the platform of the station.

Apparently, there was someone who 'fell' onto the tracks somewhere between Tampines and Pasir Ris.

What's with all this committing sucide these days?? Is our society becoming a breeding ground for people with low will power and morale that we are taking on to committing sucide and causing inconvenience to others?

anyway.... thanks to my mineral friends Andrew and Cedric for sharing their knowledge with me today!

SBS replies about pesky bus driver

SBS called me today to inform me that their bus driver has been counselled and apologized for the ugly incident...

how would i really know if its true.. so sincere...

Love fool...

Dear, I fear we're facing a problem
you love me no longer, I know
and maybe there is nothing
that I can do to make you do
Mama tells me I shouldn't bother
that I ought to stick to another man
a man that surely deserves me
but I think you do!

So I cry, I pray and I beg

Love me love me
say that you love me
fool me fool me
go on and fool me
love me love me
pretend that you love me
leave me leave me
just say that you need me
Love me love me
say that you love me
leave me leave me
just say that you need me
I can't care 'bout anything but you...

Lately I have desperately pondered,
spent my nights awake and I wonder
what I could do have done in another way
to make you stay
Reason will not lead to solution
I will end up lost in confusion
I don't care if you really care
as long as you don't go

Oh would you rather me a lovefool... or be lovelorn???? sigh.....

Love me love me.. say that you love me... fool me fool me....
