Chicken or Fish?

Chicken or fish???

I cant really tell at my lunch at Long John's Silver...

The thick batter really makes it difficult for me to distinguish. Upon tasting the meal, I realised that the fish had a very fishy smell... so fishy until it was pretty unbearable..

Oh, and I realised that the bell that they used to have in their premises to encourage the customers to strike the bell for good food and good service was no longer present in their Causeway Point outlet...

What more can one say since the bell is missing... you naturally get food that is... (no comments)!

What a tiring day...

Such a tiring day for me today..
rushing to get stuff done..
sending out emails..
calling people..
chasing deadlines...
getting stuff typed and translated to Chinese...
designing boxes..

I seriously think that i work better with stress!

Lectures without fail...

The heavy rains and flashing lightings did not deter me from making my way to school... at times I really wonder how important such an advance diploma course is.

The lecturer today just went on an on.. we even had to rush a last minute assigment in 10 mins.... sigh...
It seems to be going nowhere... thankfully, i think this semster has been quite okay so far, thanks to Joreen and Siti for being so funny, without you babes, life in lectures will be pretty boring..

Hope that I will have the strength to complete this course!

Sensory today...

Did a little sensory evaluation today..

Must say that I am quite pleased with the results..
Thanks guys for working so hard... may the product be a success!!!

Went I got back home today..
I realised that my PC optical mouse is spoilt!!! Arggh... I had to go all the way to Clementi central to get a replacment. It's not that Clementi is very far from where I stay, but just that, the feeling off going out to get something after a long and tiring day is so dreadful.

I think I am getting too hooked onto the computer.. so much that once a malfunction occurs, I get pretty irritated!!!

Happy Mid Autumn!

Happy Mid Autumn Festival!!!

Had lessons on today as usual... Our Lecturer, Mr Lam, brought in mooncakes for us... to make up for the lessons going as usual..

Going back home, I saw many kids playing with their lanterns and sparklers at the playground.. the sight really warmed my tired soul...

Anyway.. I think this song is really approriate for the Mid Autumn Festival..

The Moon Represents My Heart 月亮代表我的心

Looking at the full moon, I hope that you will be looking at too...

Once again.. Happy Mid Autumn's Festival....

ooohh... go easy on the mooncake.. you won't want the moon to represent your figure and waistline... :p

School doesnt change...

After some 4 weeks of school holidays, school reopened today..

Headed to the SP Co-op shop under the library stair case to grab a quite bite, most of the items were sold out, but it did bring back wonderful memories of my days in basic diploma. Call it nostalgia or whatever you like, but whenever I am in SP alone, these memories come back to me and bring a smile to my face.

The first lesson of the whole semster had to be TSA's Food Bioengineering, which seems nearly similar to Food Biotechnology during the days of basic diploma, so glad that there was some revision going on, I returned all my knowledge to my lecturer already.

Of course, the most important part of the such TSA modules had to be the infamous 15 minutes break which will take nearly like 50 minutes!!!

I really hope that the class size will not shrink further.......

Sunday spent shifting...

When i woke up this morning, I was still in a daze...

Everything seemed to be a weird dream to me, if dreams hold truth to the future? What would such a dream mean? Two huge cats fighting.. I still shudder at it...

Sunday was spent shifting our family retail outlet from Hongkong Street to Victoria Street Wholesale Centre... pretty tired today...

I hope I will be able to sleep well with no bad dreams today!

Pesky delights...

Went to Newton Circus today..

the store holders there are still as pushy as ever!!!

One BBQ seafood store holder even persistedly left her menu on our table despite telling her that we are not keen in her seafood.

Ordered this Fried Oyster Omelette...

Havent eaten this for such a long time, especially after studying Food Microbiology... all the hep b and parasites.. whatever... but could not resist such a wonderful local delight..
Let's just keep food microbio away for the moment!

Mooncakes Madness

Got this box of mooncakes from Bengawan Solo..
Its a mixture of flavours..

Pandan with egg yolk, white lotus with egg york and mixed fruits and nuts.

Personally, I liked the mixed nuts a lot, its crunchy, chewy and slightly fruit with the dried fruits.

The tin packaging for Bengawan Solo looks nicer then last year too , more vibrant with the colours!

Anyway.. I was caught in a jam back home from a supplier's place!!! I cant imagine that the traffic condition in Jurong area is so bad!!! Thinking that I can avoid it by steering off AYE, I turned into Yuan Ching road... but was caught in another traffic condition there....

sigh... perfect scenario for the installation of new ERP gantries...

Wishlist for Xmas 2007...

something that i really want for X'mas this year..

The Sony Ericsson Blue tooth watch!

Designed by Fossil and Sony Ericsson.. It looks so cool...

The functions are even better!

Judging by this review I saw... it sure is definitely on my wish list!

Sony Ericsson, in tandem with Fossil Inc has launched a new series of Bluetooth watches that will perform the dual functions of being a normal watch and a caller ID.

Bill Geiser, Fossil's vice president says that this watch, named Bluetooth Watch MBW-100, will save time as the users can now look who the caller is and then can decide whether to receive the call or not, without taking their phone out of their pocket or purse. The watch uses the Bluetooth wireless technology to display the caller ID from phones made by Sony Ericsson on the watch face. The watch will be able to make a vibrating alert for incoming calls and provides the users with an option to send the caller to voicemail.

Fossil says that the users will not be able to answer a call with the watch but added that it can be done using Bluetooth headsets. Fossil has been under previously attempted two forays into the hi-tech watches department. One such venture was "Wrist Net" watches, which received news headlines through MSN Direct subscription service. Another was a watch adding PDA functions, which was pulled from the market.
The only thing I gotta ponder on is to whether it is able to function with my HP PDA...

My stylus broke in my PDA phone today....

It reminded me of an incident that took place last year, time really flies, but I have not forgotten what you did for me.. Really appreciated a lot!

Thankfully, I managed to piece back the stylus...

Headed back to Singapore Polytechnic to attend this talk on talk on International Trends in Natural Food Ingredients.

Learnt quite a fair bit about ingredients, primarily sugar, cocoa and milk...

The buffet dinner at Food Haven after the talk was outrageous... I would say, it was nearly a gossip session!!!!

Was eating this passionfruit earlier..

Why do they call this fruit passion fruit????

Is it due to the fact that it best describes what passion is all about??
Sweet but sour?
If so, how apt the naming.

Was at Takashimaya's mooncake fair 2007 today!!!

What a crowd!!! The free sampling attracted throngs of people who were only eager to try the samples... few actually bought the mooncakes... perhaps it was too early. Looking at the aerial pic I took from the second level, you can probably judge how hard it is to manoeuvre around!

This year, I noticed more brands from overseas on display like Kum Lun Tai (from KL), Wing Wah (Hongkong)... the trend this year was more or less on east meets west kinda mooncakes.. I tried this interesting mango yogurt snow skin... as well as snowskin mooncakes that were coloured using natural colouring material like those from dragon fruit.

I settled for a box of Japanese mooncakes in original chestnut flavour and green tea flavour because I found the taste unique and interesting. The packaging of the mooncaes also outdid its counterparts.

Also, I got this box of moon rabbits which were basically stuffed with bean paste and yuzu peel for a very refreshing, tangy taste!

Headed on down to Plaza Singapura to have dinner at Manhattan Fish Market, I must say that the menu looks extremely similar to Fish & Co. I ordered the grilled platter for one.... Just take look at how it looks like it was from Fish & Co.'s seafood platter for one..

However, sad to say, the grilled fish fillet was not so well done.. it had some muddy notes to it...

When i was about to leave the restaurant, I bumped into an old friend, Chris Hongjie, at the entrance.. My sec school, JC mate... just back from Australia.. Lucky thing...

6000 readers

This humble little blog of mine has finally reached a total readership of 6000 readers...

Pretty happy about this "achievement".

When i started this blog, it was more of a diary to me, something that would store memories of my daily life, my rants, my raves and more... did not expect that it would reach out to other readers out there...

Thanks to all blog readers and guests to this blog of mine!

Nice mooncake... nice packaging...

I find this packaging of this box of Teochew Yam mooncakes from Eater Palace really nice.

It consists of a big box.. divided into 2 smaller boxes.. which each old 2 mooncakes each. Interesting concept I would say..

The choice of colours and print makes the product look very classy.

I really like such Teochew Yam mooncakes. Flaky crust.. rich yam filling... utterly sinful!

Finding an Old friend

i found an old friend on Frienster today..

A primary 3 classmate of mine to be exact... he's now back in Indonesia already.

It's good to be able to contact all your long lost friends... thanks to technology!

And to my cousin Clarence, yes.. I just got onto Facebook.. but it seems so complicated!

The irony of life..

Strange as it may seem, I wanted to pick up the phone to congraulate you.

But before i could press 'send' on my phone, I had second thoughts.

Things have changed so much, that i can hardly believe it myself. As much as i want to congraulate you from the bottom of my heart, I dont wish for you to view me as a parasite.

Hope things will be fine for you!

Anyway, I hope that the earthquake in Sumatra won't bring about huge casualties, I could feel the tremors in the evening while I was designing my stuff.

That's When I Love You

When u have to look away
When u don't have much to say
That's when I love u
I love u just that way
To here u stumble when u speak
Or see u walk with two left feet
That's when I love you
I love u endlessly
And when your mad cause u lost the game
Forget I'm waiting in the rain
Baby I love u
I love u anyway

Cause here's my promise made tonight
U can count on me 4 life
Cause that's when I love u
When nothing u do can change my mind
The more I learn the more I love
The more my heart can't get enough
That's when I love u
When I love u
No matter what

So when u turn to hide your eyes
Cause the movie it made u cry
That's when I love u
I love u
A little more each time
And when u cant quite match you clothes
Or when u laugh at your own jokes
that's when I love u I love u
More then u know
And when u forgot that we had a date
Or that look that u give when u show up late
Baby I love u ,I love u anyway

So here's my promise made tonight
U can count on me 4 life
Cause that's when I love u
When nothing u do can change my moind
The more I learn the more I love
The more my heart cant get enough
That's when I love u
When I love u
No matter what

Ohh that's when I love u when nothing baby, nothing u do could change my mind
The more I learn, the more I love, the more my heart can't get enough
That's when I love u , when I love u no matter what

Ohhhh no matter what

911- where were you?

6 years have past, but the trauma and anguish still lingers. I remember I was still in JC time, surfing the net, when I had numerous pop up chat windows telling me about the horrors of the plane crash.

This incident led me to see not only the fragility of life, but also the ties that bind.. reading the reports about how touching last minute phone calls the passengers on the flight made to their loved ones to bid them farewell, gave me some hope in Mankind!

I remember exactly one year later 9/11/2002, I passed my military driving test at Stagmont camp. That was my 3rd attempt!!! I really thanked my lucky stars for that.. as it was widely reputed that the traffic conditions in that area were pretty bad to pass, not forgetting the narrow lanes leading out from the camp. Some of the trainees could not even make their way out of camp, without going up kerb, resulting in immediate failure!

This year in 2007, 911 gave me a massive headache, having to complete so many tasks at one go.

Anyway, I met someone from Arofanatics today to collect some Straits Settlements coins too.. which were in not bad a condition.

Quite nice condition....

My secondary school teachers replied to me!!

Got an email reply from this secondary school teacher of mine.. she did not really teach me.. but she taught me back in kindergarden... dun ask me how I still remember.. to be really frank, I don't have much memory of my childhood.

This teacher of mine is still doing well in ACS(I), she saw me appear on the news last month about winning the SIFST Most Popular Food Product Awards and is inviting me to attend some Life Sciences Synopsium next year... how nice!

Another reply came from my Chinese teacher!!! She replied to me in Chinese characters!!! Stunning!!! I have really lost touch with all the Chinese characters... and I even attempted to reply in Chinese too.. Not an easy feat, considering the fact that I last written Chinese compositions some 7 years ago!!!

Please hor, ACS boy is not potato... I could write and speak in Mandarin pretty well when I was in secondary school, ok? :p

English made in China...

How contradicting...

Just take a look at this label...

Upon reading it, I still don't quite get what they are trying to say.. simply looks like just some spam!

Hearing from my secondary school teachers...

I sent some emails out to my secondary school teachers in ACS(I) a couple of days back to wish them a hpapy teachers' day...

Got a reply from my secondary 4 class tutor, Mrs Patricia Thong... glad that she's still teaching Maths at the International Baccalaureate programme in ACS(I)...

I always remember her as the "Hello Kitty" teacher as she always had this hello kitty bag full of her teaching stuff like white board markers and the like..

Anyway.. she told me that Mr Tan See Keng had migrated to Australia.. so all those people who came to my blog using goggle... this is some info for you..

I went to Brickworks hawker centre.. which is just behind Ikea at Alexander to try this famous congee store that appeared on some television show.. the porridge was not that fanatastic.. too cold.. so cold that the egg added to it was still not cooked after a period of time.. consistency of the porridge was far too thick for my liking and some starch like retrogradation did start to form a gel like surface on the top of the porridge... Moral of the story: NEVER trust the verdict of the TV shows when it comes to food, sensory appeal is very subjective.

Ended up eating this curry noodles.. which was still not too bad.

I havent been sleeping well recently...

Been waking up at fixed intervals... having weird dreams only to find myself waking up and the ceiling staring back at me...

I need help....
I need a break..
I need someone, that can be trusted and is willing to listen to me...

A perky song.. Sash! feat Tina Cousins - Just Around The Hill

I've been feeling down for the last couple of days...
it could be due to be a premature mid life crisis, nonetheless, i do try to wear a facade and act nonchalant. But deep inside, I really do confused and lost....

I came across this song: Sash! feat Tina Cousins - Just Around The Hill

What if the world was out of trouble
What if the world was out of pain
Would it be a world thats worth living in
Without anything
Thats worth a sin

What if the world was out of hope
Would you find a place where you belong
You said to yourself that you'd never make it that far
And the mountains too high
The answer is

Just around the hill
Just around the hill
Take a look from the other side
Suddenly you see
There are many ways
Don't go astray
Just walk around
Walk around that hill

What if the world was out of love
And all that we do don't mean a thing
You take a chance
No suffering
No suffering
For anything
You're risking yourself
Do you really want it that way?
The mountains too high
The answer is

Just around the hill
Just around the hill
Take a look from the other side
Suddenly you see
There are many ways
Don't go astray
Just walk around
Walk around that hill
Just around the hill
Take a look from the other side
Suddenly you'll see
There are many ways
To go astray
Just walk around
Walk around that hill
Walk around that hill
Walk around that hill

I really wish to find that place round the hill...
a place out of trouble, a place out of pain..
a world out of love.. out of suffering..
Can i really find my way around the hill?

Taiwan Chicken Chop in our pasar malam!!

Went to Clementi central for a walk today...
There was a pasar malam (night markert) held there.

Walked to the stall selling plants, gosh.. the auntie is one chilli padi, can hear her quarelling with another customer... I think the customer got kinda offended when the store owner scolded her' your head'... haha..

Anyway, i came across this Taiwan Chicken chop store... couldnt resist it as it brought back fond, succulent memories of the delicacies I had in Taiwan some 4 years back.

After buying a serving, I deeply regretted, the flour was too thick and the meat lacked proper seasoning. The whole cutlet was powdered with too much seasoning powder after frying that it made the cutlet looked like it had make up on.... Looking at the picture, you can see that it was overly oily, probably due to improper temperature control of oil...

Verdict: Good enough to bring back fond memories of Taiwan, but not half as tasty as the real McCoy..

That's what love does for you...

Read the news about the NSF who went missing from Mandai Hill Camp on Sunday night and was caught only on Monday night...

The public wasnt even aware that such an incident happened, while it may seem that keeping the public in the dark may be a good option as it will keep him off guard, what would have happened if lives were lost before the NSF was caught?

I really wonder how he actually managed to get his way around with the SAR21 too...

Reading on the news, it seemed that the whole thing started out because of what else, but love? Being most probably unable to accept the fact of a failed relationship and therefore succumbing to the effects of it..

Love.... warm, sweet, passionate...
... but the effects of it may be far from it...

I don't wanna fall in love......

Old News = Olds?

Was working today when my primary school classmate, Shawn aka Junkai, called me to tell me that he just saw me on TV while he was in office... wah.. so good life... can watch TV while in office..

Anyway, the news was about the SIFST Food Product awards 2007 - 2009 when I was interviewed, took place last month, 3rd of August. They must have been recycling the news... haha... but, i'm not complaining..

Got an email from my lecturer that the Diploma in Chemical Process Technology (Food Technology) is going to be renamed as Diploma in Food Science & Technology from 2008. Meaning that year one students will be directly entering their food related courses and not doing other redundant modules, which is good news!!!! And the best thing is that the school wants me to comment on their course so that they can feature it on their course brochure !!!

The Dark Secret...

How would you feel if a dark secret surfaces up in your life?

Something that you never knew before... nor never thought that it would happen to you?

I felt totally lost today when the secret was let known to me... Seriously, I was kept in the dark for so long when most of the people know about it...

I tried to put on a brave front and think nothing about it... but deep down inside.. this dark secret has affected me so much.. that i feel lost.. and yearn for a listening ear....

I used to lend my listening ear to people around me... but now.. who can lend me one?

Took some pics of the square watermelons at Fair Price Finest @ Bukit Timah Plaza.

These smaller ones from Taiwan are not edible.. and meant as ornaments only. I seriously doubt anyone will spend 68 bucks on such an ornament that will probably spoil in a few days times.

The larger patterned ones are the real McCoy from Japan.. and these costs $268!!!! Thats many many times more expensive then its round cousin!!!!

Also check out the yellow dragon fruits.. another expensive item.. but seldom seen in the market... nice!

Water City...

With its impressive man made lake, Water City in Melaka looks very much like Venice... short of the gondolas...

It's no wonder why Joanne decided on hosting her ceremonial dinner by the pool..

But the weather wasnt too nice...

the ocassional showers dampened the atmosphere.. but not the well wishes that came thronging in by the crowds.. relatives that I have never met before.. far up and away from some part of the family tree.

The dinner was held in the ballroom after the seats all got wet by the showers... Even though the buffet food wasnt really enough to go around, I am sure the guests were happy to meet up and mingle with each other...
