Capitalizing on Health?

I cant stand it anymore..

Whenever I step into Guardian Pharmacy...

There never fails to be a lack of promoters hawking a myriad of products from acne care to zinc tablets.

Was at Guardian Pharmacy at Causeway Point today..

When I stepped in, this lady promoter immediately sprung up from her seat and started to promote her wares... major turnoff....

I really wonder.. is there a need to have so many promoters around in Guardian?? And is there a conflict of interest especially when these promoters start hawking items that we do not need? Think of medical complications especially when they are not versed in pharmaceutical science....

Do we need to have statistics before relevant action is taken?

Food Photography

I never expected Food Photography to be so tedious... we spent nearly 5 hours on 9 items...

Just arranging the backdrop... giving the food a glam makeover... finding a interesting angle to take the picture and adjusting the brightness and contrast....

It really aint easy to take nice pictures of food...

Perhaps the main reason why the food in pictures look so tantalizing is not due to the food itself, but due to the hard work and effort behind the scenes?

Now think again, when was the last time you ordered something off a menu with pictures and got something else instead when the food arrived?

Lunch at TCC

Had lunch today at TCC near Plaza Singapura with friends Choy and Adrian....

Must say that the lunch time crowd in that area is pretty bad.... just imagine the fact that we could hardly find any other place to eat...

The famous cafe at the main entrance of Plaza Singapura was fully packed and we were told who seemed to be the manager that we had to queue for some 15 mins and then order our food and wait another 30 mins for the food to be served. Also, the set lunches were also running low!!!

So being left with no choice, we adjourned to TCC.. thankfully , I had my TCC card with me too!

Anyway, today I encountered the same Indian man that asked me for money a couple of weeks back. It seems that he is always stationed at the corridor of Hotel Rendezvous and his story always goes that he has not eaten and would like to buy something to eat...

It's not that I am being unsympathetic.. but I feel that since I have already given once.. and the fact he is able bodied... he should just jolly well look for a job.. which just reminds of the characters Mary and husband in the local TCS production, Made in Singapore 一房半厅一水缸...

Indeed our reel life local dramas do get inspiration from real life.. Speaking of which.. I kinda find the character Automatic Auntie funny!

Warped Aquarium Heater

Today, while doing a water change for my parrot fish tank, I discovered that the rubber sucker on my heater had melted and stuck to the whole heater.

It's a total diaster and the sucker cannot be removed at all!!! Thankfully, it did not affect the rest of the fishes...

Moral of the story.. never use suckers on a heater!

The faries have landed...

...ya...

they have landed... cos I found mushrooms growing..... evidence of their presence?

Don't they look just so adorable and edible?

China Phone Scammer Strikes Again..

Just got this phone call from an unknown number who spoke with an extremely strong Chinese accent, claiming to be from some television station asking me to answer some questions.

When I heard the accent, I immediately took on a fake 'angmoh' accent and asked if she spoke English, true enough, this caller, who was female by the way, replied in broken English and in a broken manner.... so it must be 100% a Cheena scammer!!!

Terminated the call after that...

This scammers should get a life and quit scamming people.. It's getting pretty obvious!

Sakura

Being caught up in ICT for 11 days, it's time to feast on some proper food!!!

Was with my family at Sakura Science Centre today for dinner... and it was really crowded!

The selection of food looked so great initially, but after 2 rounds at the buffet table, satiety started to kick in, and the range of food was a little too rich... (tonnes of mayonnaise, fried food, carbohydrate laden foods)
The BBQ area whereby the cooking of items like beef steaks, lamb chops, grilled prawns and all were pretty crowded, especially so since customers had to clip coloured coded clips at the counter and the service staff would serve the food later when it was done. Noticed that a service staff had dropped a whole clip down onto the floor and he stopped the entire human traffic at the area to search for the clip, only to locate it and clip it back onto the plate... gross.. don't they know anything about cross contamination?

Over at the cold seafood corner, there was this sign that read the management would not be responsible for any allergies arising from the consumption of seafood. Another kiasu step taken by the restaurant again, since allergens are mostly protein based, it would be easy for such allergens to land up on some non-seafood based food especially with shared common utensils.

Speaking of food, the only thing that appealed to me the most should have been the desserts. Yes, I get weak in the knees when I see them!!

But say to say, it wasnt really of high standards... I guess, you get what you pay afterall...
Gosh.. I still am feeling so full while posting this!

Free After ICT

How time flies...

Finally ICT has ended!!!

Looking back in retrospect, it had certainly been a great time as I got to know more people from all walks of life.. different people with different personalities too!

Well, as a matter of fact, I feel kinda lost now after all the bonding we had during the 11 days in camp, it's so quiet around me.. no corny jokes.. no hokkien expletives...

Is it alright to say that I am in fact looking forward to the upcoming ICT?

Water Parade???

Had a nice time with my mates today!!!!

We had a unofficial gathering with loads of snacks... not forgetting drinks like vodka, bacardi, jim bean and more...

What I really felt that its in times of unexpectedness, that you get strangers from all different walks of life, coming together to chill out!

Meaningful quotes

I got this whole series of quotes from Ms Sim, my primary school form teacher from Henry Park Primary School...

I really find this one meaningful:

Never explain yourself to anyone.

Because the one that likes you doesn't need it,

and the person that dislikes you won't believe it.

How true!

Life's Simple Pleasure

I have never been a great fan of Coke..

since I am pretty much 'disturbed' by its phosphoric acid content gushing down my throat whenever I gulp it..

But today, when I was outfield and under the hot sun with plenty of mosquitoes... a cool can of coke came to my rescue...

The cooling sensation just took the heat away... it felt like snow in the middle of a desert.

Ikea Woes

Was at Ikea at Alexander today..

The building was undergoing a major facelift... but Ikea remained open... Of course, there was a huge crowd as usual..

What struck me the most there.. was at the Checkout counter at Ikea... customers are charged for plastic bags due to some green policy that Ikea has adopted..

However, I personally feel that its just some scam to pass off costs of plastic bags to customers...why so??? Because, if Ikea was really that conscientious about their green policy, they would have issued white plastic bags instead of printing their logo in two colours (blue and yellow : mind you, printing colours on plastic bags uses more resources like water and electricity).

Therefore, isnt it time that Ikea looks into their green policy and start having plain white plastic bags for sale and not get us, consumers to pay for their portable advertisment space!!!!

There's a reason...

Oh... finally found this really retro song that I love so much!!!!

Let Your Love Flow - The Bellamy Brothers

There's a reason for the sun shiny sky
And there's a reason
why I'm feelin' so high
Must be the season
When that love light shines
all around us
So let that feelin'
grab you deep inside
And send you reelin'
where your love can't hide
And then go stealin'
Through the summer nights
with your lover

Just let your love flow
like a mountain stream
And let your love grow
with the smallest of dreams
And let your love show
And you'll know what I mean,
it's the season
Let your love fly
like a bird on the wing
And let your love
bind you to all living things
And let your love shine
And you'll know what I mean,
that's the reason

There's a reason
for the warm sweet nights
And there's a reason
for the candle lights
Must be the season
When those love rites
shine all around us
So let the wonder
take you into space
And lay you
under its loving embrace
Just feel the thunder
as it warms your face
You can't hold back
Just let your love flow
like a mountain stream
And let your love grow
With the smallest of dreams
and let your love show
And you'll know what I mean,
it's the season
Let your love fly
like a bird on the wing
And let your love bind you
to all living things
And let your love shine
And you'll know what I mean,
that's the reason

Just let your love flow
like a mountain stream
And let your love grow
with the smallest of dreams
And let your love show
And you'll know what I mean,
it's the season
Let your love fly
like a bird on the wing
And let your love bind you
to all living things
And let your love shine
And you'll know what I mean,
that's the reason

Recruit's Nightmare....

Gosh...

I just feel like a recruit today...

rushing down all the way to Beach Road Army Market to get my name tag sewed for the new uniform with all the new patches that indicate your unit and vocation. The deadline is tommorrow night for inspection by CSM... sigh.. such a sense of deja vu of being a recruit!

Had to wait for about an hour for the names to be embroided...

Went to a thai restaurant in Golden Mile Shopping Centre with Choy to have lunch while the auntie worked on our names.

Must say, it was a great spread of food!!!!

After collecting the names, we went to Tiong Baru to await another friend from ICT who picked us up. Drank beer at Jurong West Extension before going to Great World City to watch The Spiderwick Chronicles at Golden Village!!!!

It was a great show. A perfect modern setting complete with goblins, faries, chimeras and other mythical creatures. What's most heartwarming was the aspect of human relationship in the show!

The Keyboard is mightier then the sword

Gone are the days when the old adage "The pen is mightier then the sword" holds true...

With the rise of computers, it seems that keyboards have replaced the pen in becoming mightier.. especially so that with STOMP!

Just look at the numerous complaints being made on STOMP.. from dirty toilets to falling lamp to posts about other people's blogs!!! A soldier posted on how the escape of the terrorist has affected him on his blog and that's now causing some unhappiness to readers of his blog...

Don't these people that complain know that they can have the option of not reading it???

Are Singaporeans complaining just for the sake of doing so?

Day 1 ICT

First day of ICT today!!!!

Woke up at 2am this morning!!!!

Nope, its not that I was anxious to get to camp!!! But I swapped my SIM card from my HP PDA (which has a inbuilt camera Note: that SAF camps prohibits the use of camera phones) to a normal old generation Nokia phone.

Decided to use the HP phone as a alarm clock and set the timing to 0530 hrs. The damn thing woke me up at 0230 hrs and the worst thing was that it was only when I got out of bed to shower and back to my room did I realise the real time!!!!! Drats, forget to reset the time and calendar feature that goes haywire once the battery is removed!!!

Went back to get my precious eye shut, after which I got up at 530 hrs.

Choy, my colleague from my previous unit during my NSF life who is also in the same camp for ICT was supposed to come to my place via taxi and then head to camp. But he had difficulties getting a cab!!!! Yes, its really frustrating when you are in a hurry and there's no cab in sight!!!

So i called the cab and got it withing 5 mins and headed to pick him up and then head to camp!!!

ICT in processing was a chore having to wait for such a long time with not many familliar faces in sight. Good thing was that we managed to book out in the evening and had claypot rice on a rainy wet evening!!!

ACS(I) 7th Life Sciences Symposium

Went to ACS(I) this morning to attend the Life Science Symposium...

I met even more of my teachers today!!!!

and some of them had really aged a lot...

Displays at the Symposium were really good.. what caught my attention the most should have been the Pitcher Plants display!!!! Absolutely nice to see so many pitcher plants in air conditioned lab environment!

The students who were in charge of my group, had a nice time playing with emulsifiers I say... pity, the lab tech, who graduated the same year as me from ACS(I)... the lab must have been in a big mess!

Rushing presentations...

I cant believe I am rushing out so many presentations slides for the Life Sciences Symposium tommorrow...

somehow or rather, I dont know why I am doing this.. but there's this thought of going back to ACS to showcase this, just spurs me on....

Hope things go fine tommorrow...

Ok.. time to sleep.. feel so high after all the red wine and 7-up earlier over the dinner with work mates..

Saturday, March 01, 2008

I love you, Ms Brown..

yes...

I love you so...

Founder's Day!!!!

I went back to ACS(I) today to set up the stuff that I will need for the 7th Life Sciences Symposium...

Gosh.. the place has really changed so much, especially with the new wing, I nearly got lost there...

Nonetheless, met up with loads of old teachers there.. like ehem, Yoda and the like... haha...

Some things never do change....
