Headed to the IFT 2008 (IFT Annual Meeting & Food Expo) at Ernest N. Morial Convention Center this morning!

Pretty crowded event, attended a talk on innovation first, then walked the entire area.. which was so huge.. my legs ached!

After which, we headed to RiverWalk which was nearby the convention!

It houses a shopping complex, with stores like GAP, Clarks, Nine West, etc, besides the scenic Mississippi river.

We walked to Harrod's , the local casino in search for food..

Finally found dinner which was at a local brewery themed restaurant, Gordon Biersch, whereby we sampled some great local food! We had to wait 45 minutes to get a table!

After dinner, we explored the casino which was so lively... a band was even performing 'live' in it...

No updates from New Orleans

Which is why I am typing this haphazzardly!

Last Day in Chicago!

It's actually 4am in the morning 26/6/2008.

I am going to take a domestic flight later over to New Orleans!

Chicago had been fun and enriching!

Yesterday we went to a cheesecake manufacturer, Eli's Cheesecake!

Viewed their processing area there! Pretty impressive stuff they had!Next stop after feasting on all the cheesecake was to have lunch at this restaurant!

Anyone inspired for 4-D draws?

Next stop, we went to a company that specialises in chocolate and confectionery machines!

The stuff they had for us was amazing!

We had the Singapore National flag awaiting us as when we arrived!

Not only that, they welcomed all of us with a superb range of sweet goodies!

We really had so much food to taste on this trip, not forgetting that most American foods are all pretty big portioned!

Next, we went to another factory, before calling it a day and heading down to Michigan Avenue for a nice evening walk cum shopping session!

Some pictures of the nice scenery.. I'll just like the pictures do the talking!

As the girls were all super engrossed with their trend study in the departmental stores, I went to eat with the guys, and this is the normal meal that the Americans have..

In the foreground, the plate of potatoes is a side dish, the grilled calamari is an appetizer, and the pizza is the main dish! All this for one person... ok.. we shared it amongst three persons!

Ok, it's time for me to go get dressed up to catch the flight to New Orleans now... will update more soon!

Day 2 in Chicago!

Time check: 24th June 2008 11:48pm

Another exciting in Chicago today!!!

We went to the National Center for Food Safety and Technology (NCFST) in the morning to find out a great deal of information on Food Safety and various new projects that the centre undertakes!

Lunch was at Southern Belle's Restaurant and Pancake house where I ordered their daily special! Meals here are always so big and while we went in totally famished, we came out of the restaurant so full and sleepy!

Next on the stop was the Fraine group that deals with used machinery!

Stash of the day:

Dinner today was at Shaw's Oyster bar, where they did not only oysters, but also fantastic lobsters!

Pic of the breads and other biscuits servedLook at the succulent lobster beckoning!

Key Lime Pie which was really really sour!

Chicago city!

Time check: 9 pm 23rd of June 2008, Chicago time!

Let me begin this post with a scene from somewhere near my hotel...

Find it really cute...

After checking into the Amalfi hotel in Chicago, we decided to explore the area us at night, taking note that most stores do close at about 8pm (gosh, I really appreciate late night shopping in Singapore now)

Urban skyscrapers shows that I am not somewhere ulu, phew! :p
Shopping time!!!!

What's this horse doing here in urban Chicago? Waiting to give Cindrella a ride after all the shopping?

Mention Giordano in Singapore, and one would probably associate the name with the fashion chain that has relatively affordable clothes. But here in Chicago, the name is, surprisngly, associated with food! Pizza to be more exact! We wanted to try the pizza here, as recommended, but he queue was so long that the staff at the restaurant estimated a waiting time of 1.5 hours before we could get our tables. So we had to get something else!

So we settled for another eatery. I ordered steak... and boy.. the portion is so huge!!!! The fries are nearly impossible to finish!

My stash of stuff from today's impromptu shopping trip from Banana Republic and A/X!

It so happened that there was a sale! And boy, it was so cheap!
