Fruity Sunday!

A usual Sunday routine, yummy fruits...

Custard Apples:

Dragon Fruits:
Mangosteens, an upcoming functional fruit:

As early as 1855, a German scientist identified mangostin, a powerful antioxidant, known as a xanthone, which appeared to fight infection, fungus, bacteria, histamines and possibly cancer.

210 xanthones have been identified in nature, and over 40 of those have been found in the pericarp of the mangosteen fruit.

Soya Boom!

Not sure if anyone noticed the news about the explosion at a soya bean store in Ghim Moh, just in case you missed it, here's the gist:

An explosion occurred at a soya bean stall at Blk 19, Ghim Moh Road on the 25th June 2009 injuring six people.

According to Shin Min Daily News, the machine used to manufacture soya bean milk exploded suddenly at about 11am. Reasons for the explosion are still unknown.

After the loud explosion, six people in the vicinity were splashed with burning soya bean milk and sent to hospital.

The explosion also affected the business of the stalls to its left and right. The stall owners had to suspend operations.

The area was strewn with shattered glass and the lunch crowd looked on curiously as police conducted their investigation.

The six injured included five women and one man. Three of the women were staff of the stall, two women were eating nearby, while the man was patronising the stall when the explosion occurred.

One victim's face was scalded and the owner of the neighbouring stall tried to relieve her pain with ice cubes and milk.

So this morning, when I was there, the affected store was still close:

Business for the other store next to it was also pretty quiet, despite the fact that it was a Sunday morning!

According, to some of the store owners, the affected store was apparently using some old machinery that was more then 10 years old.

This incident really makes me wonder about the how safe it is to have a machinery operating under pressure and heat in a hawker centre, especially when the equipment is not just a household pressure cooker but one of industrial capabilities.

Is it time for more awareness on safety aspect of the hawker centres? I wonder what would have happened if the incident happened during the lunch peak hours, or on a Sunday morning.

Recalling the days when my family and myself used to sit right in front of the store, just sends shivers down my spine!

Anyway, I really wonder if this will mark the end of the soya bean war in Ghim Moh!

Entrecard Second Payout!

This came as a surprise this morning when I checked my mail:

Entrecard's second payout to me!!!

Just when I was about to give up hope after hearing that many people had not received their payout for ages!!

I guess the proof in the pie.... is in the eating, or in the case, the receiving!

Mushroom Madness

Had Botak Jones for dinner today..

I must say that the service levels at the popular food chain outlet is really dropping!

Cashier with an attitude, slow service... what else can you ask for?

I had to ask for cutlery 2 times, because, they apparently ran out of it... and it was not even the peak hour during dinner time!
Next, when to a supermarket, and this display caught my eye:
It's the marketing floor display for a local mushroom farm, Mycofarm.
A lot of seldom seen before 'specimens' on display!

Farewell, MJ

I was on the way to work this morning, when I heard news over the radio that Micheal Jackson, one of the legends in the Pop industry has passed on.

Instantly, when I logged onto Twitter, the words 'Micheal Jackson', "MJ", "RIP MJ" and other words belonging to the same genre were trending topics! Just shows how many poeple actually missed him!

For a moment, it struck a chord in me, as I remember fondly the times in Henry Park Primary School, when the song 'Heal the World' was used for community singing...

Decided that this post shall be a tribute to the legend...

Rest in Peace..

Recessional measures?

It's been 5 years since I got my civilian driving license and I have been a member with the Automobile Association of Singapore since then too!

My membership was due for renewal a few weeks back, and when I renewed my license, I got this in my mail box today:

A sticker to stick onto my card for renewal purposes? Wow... and it's even a computer generated one at it too!

Hows that for lack of human touch?

Is the recession really calling for such cost cutting measures?
Also, if its due to environmental friendly reasons, why even bother to issue such plastic cards anyway?

Durian Again?

I must admit...

I am getting a little sick of durian...

What's wrong with people?

I read that local comedian actress, Patricia Mok, got molested at a night spot recently:

The 37-year-old was dancing when a man allegedly touched her buttocks, according to an unnamed eye-witness quoted by Chinese newspaper Lianhe Wanbao.

Ms Mok warned the man, "Don't play!", but he apparently touched her "sensitive area", said the report. She then alerted the disco's bouncers. When contacted, Ms Mok declined comment on the incident.

A police spokesman confirmed that a call for assistance was made at around 3.20am on Monday. A 31-year-old Chinese man was subsequently arrested and police investigations are on-going.

Instantly, the blogoshpere has been buzzing with news about this incident..

Some people saying that the molestor must have been blind and other unkind stuffs.... which leads me to think, do people have to be good looking to be molested?

Why do the other people who think that they are perfect think that way?

Google Page Rank back again

Just realised that the Google page rank for this blog is back again..

after being a zero for months, Google places a page rank of 2 back again!!!!

Finally.. thanks to all for supporting!

Video Games are addicitive

This video on Youtube apparently shows what happens to a kid when his mum cancels his Wow (World of Warcraft) account!

Proof that video games are so addictive...

If you ask me, the reaction is even more violent then the Yishun Ghost Exorcism video I featured recently!

Hope its not the last bite!

After I got news that the Cantonese Roast Stall at Clementi Blk 328 would be closing at the end of the month.
My family went there today in the afternoon!
A queue could already be seen forming for takeaways!
Perhaps, others too felt that they most definitely miss this roast meat store and came down to show their support! It's kinda true that you only treasure something when you are about to lose, or have lost it!

Anyway.. the roast meats were still as good as ever...
Tasty roasted duck
and succulent roasted pork belly and char siew..
What more can one ask for?
Let's just hope that this stall will relocate to somewhere else!
So if you love the Cantonese Roast Meat Store at Clementi Blk 328, go have it before the end of the month!

Fruits of the day...

What other things to welcome Sunday with?

Juicy pineapple...

So sweet and juicy... the even remind me of the pineapple notes that is used in flavourings.. how authentic!

Usual lychees, heard that the season is ending already... so must enjoy them while they last too!

Food Evolution!

I am just quite perplexed by so called 'local food' that have been infused with new flavours...

Was at this NTUC Food Fare Foodcourt today having some dessert, decided that I wanted the Thai Red Ruby dessert.. and when I took a bite.. I was disappointed!
Whatever happened to the crunchy chestnuts that a good recipe ought to have? All that was present was just globules of red coloured flour... and the best thing was... when did the dessert have gula melaka (brown palm sugar) and sago that is dyed red and green?
It just makes the traditional Thai dessert look like ice kachang!
I really wonder if the PRC staff there are really breathing in some new live into the dessert, so drastic that after the makeover, one can hardly tell one from another.. It just reminds me of what someone said "local food, but not prepared by any locals"!
Ironic and sad thing...
Thank god I had Thai durians to make up for it!

Cantonese Roast @ C328

I just got informed via some Arofanatics forummers that the Cantonese Roast at Clementi Blk 328 will be closing after 28th of this month!

Shocking news if you ask me, as I have always favoured this particular store near my place for its authentic and succulent Cantonese Roast!

Apparently, the whole coffee shop has been sold as the owner is retiring and the rennovations will last 2-3 weeks after that!

So fans of the store, do patronise your fave store before the curtains are let down!

Fruity Sunday..

Somehow or rather, Sunday has become a day I associate with fruits from the market:
Today, other then the usual lychee that I have gotten for the last 2 weeks, I got other fruits like this blushing anjou pear from South Africa:
Custard apple, which is so yummy:

and, something, that I have not really seen in ages... red bananas...

Just in case, you are wondering about the sensory characteristics of the red bananas... they taste almost the same as most of their yellow counterparts.. but seem to be a tad bit more sticky!

Adgitize Ad View Conversions

I just cant believe that some 23,000 ad views when converted to points is just worth a mere 50 points...

Whatever happened to the promise last month that 10,000 ad views would be converted to approximately 100 points?

Sick maid hangs Siberian Husky!

Read a happening from a local forum about how a maid hang a Siberian husky to death using a lift...

Real sick act:

Extreme disgust!!

Such maids should be dealt with by Singapore law and then sent back to their country to be banned from returning to Singapore!

Can you imagine what can possibly happen if young children and toddlers are left in the care of such evil maids? Perhaps, our authorities should not only look at the skills aspect of the domestic workers but also on the psychological and emotional quotient aspects!

Sail away!~

Yummy Nasi Bryani at Northpoint today for lunch...

The thing about nasi bryani is that it really has a plethora of colours... from all the spices used.. from saffron to caradom to star anise... Take a look at how colourful the meal is:

Went to the SAF Yatch Club for a drink later in the day... breathtaking sights of the sea:

Not for the Faint Hearted... Exorcism in Singapore

I watched this video last night:

Quite a scary video if you ask me...

Apparently, the woman in the video was behaving strangely lately. The family members been observing her and noticed that she had not been herself. She was staring blankly to “something” most of the time, when her husband and children talked to her, she did not seem to hear them. She would keep going to the fridge and chewed up all the ice cubes that she could find there.

Sometime in the middle of the night the family noticed that she would sit alone in the kitchen or living room and seem to be talking to somebody. At time the rest of the family members heard a voice sounds like a man spoken from her mouth, but they were not certain with what they heard and suspected that she might have come in contact with some “dirty things”.

That particular night she finally broke out, kept yelling, screaming, crying, and struggling. The family managed to hold her down till dawn. They stayed in Yishun and had heard that there was currently a Thai master in the neighborhood so they went to seek for help.

When Ajarn Dech and Mr Jo arrived at their place, the woman upon seeing them stepping into the house, was terrified and kept covering herself with a blanket. The rest can ther after be seen from the clip on youtube.

There you have it... exorcism in Singapore, something not from the movies..

Bid Contacts Farewell!

iLasik... is not another product by Apple with that funky 'I' in front of it, rather, this is a form of modern day LASIK (laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis) surgery. Lasik is performed by ophthalmologists using a laser. The procedure is generally preferred to photorefractive keratectomy, PRK, (also called ASA, Advanced Surface Ablation) because it requires less time for the patient's recovery, and the patient feels less pain overall.

Recessional times calls for more savings and less wast ages, that is what iLASIK aims to help consumers to do! Have you ever wondered how much money you will spend on disposable contact lenses? It has been estimated that a life-time supply of contact lenses from the age of 25 years old will set one back by some $20,000! Amazing! Thus by choosing iLasik, one not only invests in vision but also encounters greater savings in terms of expenditure for contact lenses and related accessories in the long term.

Another reason why iLasik is better then contact lenses: Daily contact lens wearers have a 1-in-100 chance of developing a serious, contact lens-related eye infection in 30 years of use, and a 1-in-2,000 chance of suffering significant vision loss as a result of infection. The researchers calculated the risk of significant vision loss consequence of LASIK surgery to be closer to 1-in-10,000 cases.

So don't wait, get a clearer picture, visually and financially, with iLasik!

Socialspark CPC suspended!

I am feeling quite pissed over a rude email I got from a Socialspark associate, Crystal Duncan.

She claimed that I did not have a disclosure policy about the affiliate links on my blog, whereas I do have a site wide disclosure right at the bottom of the page.

As such, they have suspended my Socialspark CPC account for 2 months, which I think is absurd, there seems to be no proper instructions on how to include links onto blogs.

I hope those that use Socialspark CPC will be more aware of their terms and conditions!

Word of advice:

Please note, if you are going to add links in your sidebar you may display them in this way...
My blog has been Sponsored by the following Advertisers:

Tyres in the middle of the road?

Yes... apparently that happens in Truly Asia!

Came across this discussion thread on the Singapore Honda Club Forum. A forum member there claims that policemen in our neighbouring country are putting tyres in the middle of the highway for drivers to crash under low lighting and visiblity conditions, afterwhich they will still be charging the drivers for speeding...

If the car is damaged they will use their tow trucks.... and that, according to the person who posted, would the last time you see your car! When non of the above tactics work, they will then proceed to press charges for illegal gathering by the highway.

Amazing isn't it???

Not too sure about the authencity of this piece of news! But judging from how you can get fined from eating keropok while driving as per my previous blog entry some time back, I really am not surprised!
